Also you have to remember that there is one or two stages singing infront of the producers which they don't show you have to get through before you even get to sing in front of Simon, Sharon and Louis.

I'd imagine this gives a lot of the mildly deranged people a feeling of confidence that they might actually be good.

A mate of mine went through those original rounds on the first X Factor and then didn't get past the Judges. He was told to keep it secret.
