X-Fi 64 bit issues

Hi,

I have downloaded the trial vesion of XP 64 bit to try it out & it works fine apart from a few issues with my X-Fi card (it's the platinum fatality one). It doesn't seem to save any changes I make to any settings so I have to spend 5mins everytime I boot my computer up changing all the settings back (it starts in 2.0 rather than 5.1 which is really annoying).

Also, when I try to turn off or re-boot, I briefly see a BSOD but it's only displayed for a second then the computer reboots so I don't even have time to read what it says. It's annoying because to turn my PC off I have to hold the power button down till it switches off.

The wierd thing is the sound is fine, I can play games, play music & watch films/DVD's with no problems. I have downloaded the 64 bit XP drivers from creative.com & I even tried the new beta drivers last night but it made no difference. I know it's something to do with the sound card because I tried a clean install & still had the same issues. I don't have any of these problems with XP 32 bit either.

I'd like to buy the full version of XP 64 bit as I have 4gb of RAM, but if I can't sort these issues out then I'll stick with 32 bit for now.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

I'm afraid to say that XP64 was a bit of a non-starter. Driver support (and software support) was always a bit ropey. I don't like saying it, but, try Vista 64 because support is better.

I've got an X-Fi extreme music and Vista x64. Only had it a few days but it seems ok so far. Some of the default drivers settings need tweaking and getting a mic to work properly takes some twiddling but other than that it seems pretty good. The sound is awesome.

Yeah - tell me about it! Having to tick the little box in Sound manager to say "Use the Mic port" is a stupid step that you'd expect them to set by detault!
