Just wondering if anyone else has the above, and managed to get it working? I've tried following a guide using the OSS drivers, but can't get sound working at all thus far.

That guide worked for me. X-Fi and Heron.

Disable onboard sound and the system sounds in Ubuntu (if you have them on, EDS I think it is called).

Gone into System -> Preferences -> Sound and set them to OSS?

Tried osstest in a terminal?

What applications have you tested? VLC? You will need to specfiy the location of the X-Fi for that.

Got to pop out for a bit, will try again later. Thanks for your help :).

Ok, I've tried playing MP3s, but just get a "Playback Error" message, or no sound. When I click the Volume control icon in the top right hand corner, I get "no volume control gstreamer plugins and/or devices found".

DVDs playback with no sound, etc.

I've managed to find an official(?) driver from Creative, but that uses ALSA instead of OSS. Should I remove OSS and just go for ALSA?

As far as I know only OSS works with X-Fi. Not using SPDIF are you? Doesn't work I don't think.

Volume control won't work with the OSS :) You can download a patch for it from that guide.

Try using VLC, and in the settings, under audio -> output modules -> OSS, specify the location of your X-Fi, mine is: /dev/oss/sbxfi0/pcm0, yours is something similar I guess. Need to have ticked the Advanced Options in the bottom right of the settings screen.
