I have no sound at all, everything is plaugged in correctly and i have the latest drivers and windows even detects the card but i have no sound at all. Do reckon i could RMA??

Have you checked the speakers are plugged in the right socket on the card, and checked the audio isnt muted in the volume control.

Also, could be worth trying a different PCI slot.

You could (I guess) but are you totally totally sure it's the card. I'd hate for you to perhaps be charged with a fee or something if the card is actually working.

So a couple of things to triple check (as mentioned above).

1. Speakers plugged in correctly. Do the speakers work through on-board sound? (To rule out the speakers are dead).

2. Nothing suspicious perhaps disabled in BIOS? (I doubt this one saying Windows detects the card).

3. Nothing at all muted in the Creative software or Windows Control Panel?

4. You say the PCI slot is the only one available. For reasons of testing, could you remove what ever is in the other PCI slots and test the soundcard again? (May be a duff slot)

5. Perhaps try a Windows Update and BIOS update for the mobo.

6. Can you perhaps install the drivers again via Safe-Mode (not sure if you can, but perhaps it will solve the issue).

7. Are things like DirectX up-to-date?

What exactly happens when you play movies, games, audio, etc. Can you see stuff playing but just get no sound out? You don't have some SPDIF option selected perhaps making the sound card output incorrectly?

Cheers.

i have all the latest updates, BIOS, drivers etc.

Coz i have an sli setup the 2nd gfx card renders the pci slot below it useless.

Everything is unmuted

stuff is playing but no sound

everything is plugged in correctly

I had perfect sound this morning but after i took my gfx cards out to add some thermal paste to them and put them back in i have no sound at all.

Has anyone RMA with creative before?? anygood??

Sounds like you've tried most things then. :)

However, it's a bit odd that you were working on the graphics cards and when you put them back in you have lost all sound. You haven't perhaps knocked the soundcard slightly out of the PCI slot. You should perhaps try removing it and re-seating the card just incase. If that doesn't help I believe you should RMA the card for a replacment. I haven't had any experience dealing with Creative, but I have emailed them before and they seem to reply pretty sharpish.

i took it out and put it back in twice, did a clean install of software and everything.

Do u reckon if i RMA creative will send me a better model card perhaps. Ive heared of companys like BFG who have sent customers better model GFX cards when they RMA

I very much doubt it. If you RMA a card which is out of production then, and only then, will they send you the newer equivalent. As yours is a current card then you'll get an identical replacement.

It does seem very odd that a sound card (not really that unreliable) suddenly stops working after you removed some card(s) next to it. Please don't take this the wrong way but if you are considering RMA'ing it simply in the hope of receiving a different card back then I wouldn't even try it.

Ive fixed the problem, for some strange reason the pci slot i was originally using wouldnt let the card be pushed all the way in, so i tried the slot rite next 2 my graphics card and it fits fine although my sound card is now practically touching my gfx card :(

tbh mate i wish i didnt fix it which would have given me a good reason 2 spend 80 quid on the X-FI gamer fatal1ty edition-X-RAM :D

Two games use X-Ram. Two.
Buy the Extreme Music, OEM or retail.

You get free dirty record effect with the X-Fi too :p

i wish mine was hardware faulty so I could blag a refund :(

Send it to me, if it's ok I'll send you a cheque. You can't do much with it on your rig. If it's crackly I'll send it back to you. Seriously. my bay id is snotface10000, 100% rating

I need a SC, love to get M-audio but no game D3D/eax support. X-Fi probably good enough for music, and if it's crackle free...sorted.

Unless wanna do a trade of something?

I'm not prepared to drop price much though, as I've used it a whooped, 4 times.

Take this to msn if youd like to talk.
