X-Fi drivers not detecting X-Fi card - a known issue?

Plugged a X-Fi Music card into an NF4 Asus SLI Premium (BIOS 1009).

WinXP detects it as a "Multimedia Audio Device" but when I install the Creative Drivers, the card simply isn't detected by the drivers which say that there is no hardware installed that supports this software. Device Manager has the yellow question marks and 'Multimedia Audio Device' where Creative X-Fi should be.

Tried the drivers off the CD and the also website. Done a reboot. Everything's fully plugged in.

I understand that a few people have had similar problems with these X-Fi cards not being detected.

Someone suggested that the problem was caused by old firmware on the early revision of the SB0460. Anyone know anything about this?

Is this problem involving X-Fi cards not being detected a known issue?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is this a new card or is a used one thst you have purchased? Also did you get it from the bay?

2 Possibilities :

1. You have an early firmware card that has problems with NF4 chipset ( newer ones are fine, i think the newer ones have a heatsink on the chip as well where the older ones didnt ) Get in touch with creative as tey were swapping the cards out free of charge

2. If you had it from the bay you could have an OEM dell, but then i dont think the drivers would even install.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I bought it from someone on another forum..who actually bought it from someone on this forum.

Strangely, the card has no markings on it at all. The retail X-Fis that I've owned previously all had X-Fi logos stamped on the PCB.

How do I tell if its a Dell OEM version?

Well i used to have aretail x-fi, and as you say it had X-fi stamped on it. Ive now got one of the ocuk oem ones and theres no markings.

I think the only way to be sure is to go on to the creative labs forums and ask one of the mods on there, although the dell ones are missing some decoders, so the options dont show up in the driver panel, not much use tho if you cant get the drivers installed.

Do ypu have a different pc you can try it in?

I had the same problem and it turned out the X-Fi just wanted to be in another PCI slot. I moved it down to the bottom one at it worked fine. I suggest you try that. I had a SB Live in the same slot for ages without issues - it seems the X-Fi's are just more fussy.
