X-Fi Elite Pro breakout box and remote not working [Almost Solved!]

Hi chaps,

I've just received an Elite Pro, plopped it in.. hooked up the power to it, connected the console and all seems to be just fine.

I however have the following issues:

  1. The volume on the breakout won't work
  2. The remote will register on the breakout box, but nothing happens

It IS detected correctly as an Elite Pro, the volume on the breakout does not work, but the mute (on the same knob) does. The control knobs on the breakout box DO make the EAX turn on/off, CMSS turn on/off etc.. I just can't get the volume control working from it. The fact the remote won't do anything either makes me thing I'm missing something.

I'm leaning immediately towards it being a software issue, as I've installled the latest stable PAX drivers as I always have for X-Fi's for the Elite Pro.

Is there some form of other software I have to install to get the console to work.. or some option I need to set?

NOTE: I have just replaced an X-Fi Xtreme Music, and it does still see that but it says it is not connected. (At least that's what it said on the 'auto-updater' from creative that I just bypassed)

Have you tried hooking the box up to ther extreme music to see if it makes a difference. Daft question but have you connected the floppy power connector to the card and are there any lights on the front of the breakout box.

My volume thing does work and i have the full install of the pax software.

Cant comment on te remote as i dont think i got one with mine when i got it years ago.

Hey meatloaf, thanks for the reply.

Firstly, I'm on Win 7 64 Ultimate.

Power cable is connected to the sound card. The breakout box works, lights up etc. I sold the Xtreme Music on, and sent it off a couple of days ago (Purchaser is very happy).

I'm currently downloading the Creative Media Centre for Vista 64 to see if that works helps the remote (apparently it might).

Have you got a download link for the full software install for the same version of PAX at all? (I merely used went to PAX Your Sound Out website, and selected Win 7, and downloaded the drivers for the elite pro (they auto downloaded).

Update: I can get the system partially working it seems with IntelliRemote. But remote volume/eax/crystalizer etc don't work, and crucially breakbox volume doesn't work :-( I also tried to install the Vista 64-bit Media Center and it didn't work, just errored out :-(

CRUCIALLY.. intellremote show's that it is picking up ALL the signals correctly from the remote. Wheel up/wheel down, wheel button (and which one), keypad, slow, play/pause etc etc. It's obviously just another 'creative' issue :-( If I could get the media center installed that would be great. I wonder if there is a version that works with the PAX drivers?

OK, I've installed the 800MB+ software suite from PAX, and it's still doing the same :-( bum.

I did actually notice that it I rapidly turn the volume knob it sometimes registers a volume change of a few percent.

Hmm... I wonder if a VM install of XP would prove the breakout box works...

Do you get the volume dial come up on the bottom right of your screen? Its strange that its still detecting the xtreme music tho.

Im not sure a VM install would work as i use MS virtualPC and the sound it installs is just a generic driver.

I've managed to ditch the Xtreme reference now :-)

Well... I have finally managed to get the Vista version of Creative Media Center (American spellling by Creative) installed. It was a fight, including a forced shutdown, but the controller now works and can enable/disable things and do the volume. I think maybe by installing more than the basic package allowed the media centre to see all the files it needed for an install. Just for other people's reference, I'm running the Creative Media Center installer in Vista SP2 compatibility mode.

The Breakout box's volume know is still not working other than to mute. I've opened the box and I can see nothing untoward.. but will have another gander tomorrow.. and maybe try XP to see if that changes anything.

I'm 95% of the way there now though :-) Just a complete ball ache to sort out.

Hi
Can you solve it? I have the same issue with the volume control on the external panel, it enable or disable sound (mute/unmute) but dont rise or fall volume, and the same with EAX control, i think its broken
