X-fi extreme Audio?

Hi all, I'm currently using an onboard sound card with optical out going to a surround system, while music sounds quite good there is no DD/DTS for when watching dvd's (my amp does have the decoders for both), and CSS (the only game i play) sounds aweful. I did make a post about this before but since I've been looking at the different cards out there I was hoping for some more advice.

Put simply i'm on a tight budget so cheaper the better, is the x-fi music worth the extra 20 notes compared to the x-fi audio in terms of what i'll be needing it for? If anyone could tell me the main differences between them i'd be most grateful.

The main things i want from it are:

DD/DTS for dvd's.
Improved music quality.
CSS to sound better.

So could I get away with buying the x-fi audio card instead of the music card in order to achieve all of these things? And for any reason would buying the x-fi music card be more futureproof when taking it over to a new build in the future?

Also, I've been reading that using optical out isn't the best option when using the x-fi cards, would it be better to use analogue cables? And why?

Quite a lot of questions there but would be grateful for people's opinions. Thanks a lot for any help.

Hmmm, can't remember to hand as am at work... some kind of nvidia mobo ac97 7.1 card, mobo is Gigabyte K8NS Pro. I did select in the SPDIF options to enable pass through of DTS and DD, but no luck when playing dvd's using win dvd 7 platinum :/
