X-fi Extreme Gamer info required

Ok so waiting on a X-fi Extreme Gamer card to arrive within next few days and as I run Vista Ultimate 64 I was wondering whats the best way to set this card up and drivers to use etc etc. Oh one last thing I play BF2 and can or how do I go about getting EAX .... do I need to use 'Alchemy' ? Cheers

Don't use the drivers on the cd, get the latest from creative.com, the drivers on vista where **** for about 6 months, but they sorted them in the latest versions.

As for EAX it doesn't work in vista due to the changes in directsound. You can use alchemy if you want though. Personally i've not bothered with it since its mainly a problem with older games.

BF2 doesn't need alchemy, just set the sound quality to X-fi in the game settings.

Alchemy works well for older games, including source engine games etc.

i second that, the vista drivers that came with my gammer completely screwed up my system

You have to input all the settings manually don't you? Never did figure that out.

yeah, you can do it by path or registry key. There is some useful info on t'interweb where you can find the registry keys already in a cfg file for it.

...just to say thanks again ... got around to sticking the card in and have it up and running and I know we have all seen this a million times BUT .... the difference a stand alone soundcard makes is unreal and this coming from 8 chan. HD onboard ... BF2 with EAX and Ultra High
