This has probably been asked a thousand times, but what kind of improvement would I see over onboard sound (DS3) if I buy a X-Fi Extreme Music?
I use some cheapy 2.1 logitech speakers and sennheiser HDR 120's at the moment.

Would I see a larger improvement by buying better speakers/headphones or by getting the sound card?

Also, what comes with the Extreme Music as it's OEM? Can I still download and use Creative's latest drivers?

(my excuse is that the search button's gone)

Huge improvement with soundcard eveything from games to music will sound better think of it like going from mono to thx surround sound.
Just bought a music oem comes with the official drivers/software disc.
Yes latest drivers are fine.

I didn't think there would be that much of a difference but my fiancee and I have the same speakers on our computers. She has onboard sound and I have an X-FI Music. Listening to the same songs on each computer, you can hear a huge difference.

I just replaced my onboard sound with a competing card. The difference is incredible.

No static, no noise, and stuff sounds better.
