x-fi fatality remote

Make sure u also connect have the X-fi front panel connected properly to the X-fi soundcard via the IDE cable thats provided inside the fatality box.

Also make sure the 3 pin floppy power cable is plugged into the Xfi front panel.

u might also want to goto start/creative/creative entertainment center/entertainment center settings/ and make sure "Creative PCI sound external drive" and "creative RM-1800" is in both boxes and that all 3 boxes have a tick in them (all under remote control menu)

I have the same issue at the moment as well, not able to get the remote to work either. How does windows display the fatality box, does it assign properties to it, any help will be appreciated.

Read my post above and u will find theres an creative option to see if your remote and X-fi is setup/configured ok.

I have done, I have the 3 pin power lead connected and also the fatality box is connected to the sound card but it is not being detected, everytime I go open the entertainment centre settings the remote is mentioned there "creative RM-1800" but the "Creative PCI sound external drive" is not listed. The remote is greyed out as well and it gives me an error message to say no IR device detected.

Any ideas what I've done or not done correctly, it is all setup, the computer just does not see it.

My x-fi didnt need a power connector... just needed to be plugged into a PCI slot, then ive got the grey cable connected to the X-fi panel and then the 4 pin power connector to the X-fi panel.

Make sure u got the cable on properly I had a nightmare putting my 4 pin connector on it actually bend 1 of the silver lines backwards!

Also try reloading the X-fi drivers completly again.

I know its a headache to get it up and running but once that 4 pin connectors on properly and your drivers are synced that panel will work fine on each pc restart... you might wanna take your x-fi panel off and see if that 4 pin connector is ok I found half my capacitors and 4 pin connector half bent.

In future ill spend the extra £100 and get the USB external one a lot more easier.....

Ok well I've formatted and re-installed everything afresh and still the I/O box is not being detected, the sound card works great, the Optical Out shows a red light so I know there is power to the I/O box, what is the matter, feel like throwin it out the window at the moment, 2 days almost wasted and a format to try and get this thing working :( :(

You are installing the whole creative suite package right?

Still almost sounds like its either the grey cable or the 4 pin floppy connector isnt on properly. One sure way to tell is plug in the headphones in the front port and see if theres sound? Move the volume knob up and down too.

If there is sound then it means the X-fi panels ok and working but just not the remote detection... and if theres no sound then the X-fi panel aint getting any power at all so u know its the 4 pin connector or the grey cable that came in the fatality box thats duff or the xfi panel itself...

Ok, the Optical Out socket is lit up whjen removing the cap off of it so surely power is getting to it, I have also tried the headphones in the socket and there is nothing coming from there at all.

If the IDE cable is faulty how can I test this without getting another identical?

Just wondering - have you checked the batteries in the remote? Often when things come with batteries, there's a plastic or paper seal you have to remove to make the batteries contact the terminals. They use them to stop the batteries running down before you buy it.

Well I feel like a REAL FOOL, I can't believe the lengths I've gone to to try and get this I/O Box to work and after all the IDE cable connecting the card and the box together was only on 1 row of pins on the box, I've put it on correctly now and it works prefectly.

I'd checked this 3-4 times and just didnt notice it, think its cause its so dark in my case and also when I installed it I was half asleep, I feel such an idiot, oh well we live and learn I guess, at least its working now which is what its all about, thanks anyway for the tips guys.
