does anyone know if you can use X-Fi CMSS-3D surround sound with the X-FI Gamer (not fatal1ty version), and a normal pair of stereo headphones, pluged into the headphone socket on the back of the card, or do you need to connect a I/O drive bay via the cards Intel HD Audio Compatible Front Panel
Header (2x5pin) ?

all i want to do is connect the card to my external 7/1 home cinema AV Amp, via digital conection, to recieve DD & DTS (when software dvd player is decoding it and sending via bitstream, or when games are in multichanel.)
(or stereo when playing 2 channel source material eg. MP3 etc)

and i want to connect up a standard pair of sennheiser headphones via headphone 3.5mm jack on back of card, and recieve X-Fi CMSS-3D surround sound !!

christ its not a lot to ask ! (is it?)

i have read so mutch stuff about these cards doing this and not doing that that i dont know if i even want the damn thing now!

cheers

thats good i intend to use optical out for watching films encoded with DD DTS, (with media player classic) routed thru Sound card, & stereo thru stereo sources like MP3 etc......
and im gonna use games with headphones and X-FI CMSS 3D Surround, as i have heard good things about it!
if i want multichannel thru games tho, i have to use the 3 analouge outs on the back of the card? i think 1 does front L & R, one does Rear L & R, and third does Centre & sub ? and u use 3.5mm minijack for soundcard to 2 rca plugs for analouge multi channel amp in. i have got a parasound Halo C2 processor so i have got plenty of connection choices!
cheers
ps. have you ever seen a website as confusing as the creative one, its a pity they havnt really got any decent competition !
