To X-fi or not to X-fi that is the question?

Below is the original post! , however! The question now (is as the title should read, to xfi or not!). I'm running an NF4 based Abit KN8!

I've decided to get myself an Xfi card, probably the music extreme. My current setup consists of onboard sound with a pair of senheiser headphones. I've got my hifi with the pair of wharfedale diamond 8.1 that i listen to music to.

Would i gain any benifit from keeping the wharfs in there? Its not too bigger room, to be fair they're probably on the large side! What would be a reasonable replacement for them in the world of pc speakers to compliment the card? I listen to most music on headphones so its not really too much bother.

So yes! Decide for me!!

Hi m8 i would stick with what you got because there is no pc speaker systems that i know of will touch your amp and speakers, i got a denon A/V amp with the wharfedale diamond speakers myself and the sound is pretty decent with the x-fi card.

i will second that
i use a pair of mordant short
with a crappy pioneer amp and i havent come accross a set of comp speakers that will compare

FYI and wallet !! are you aware of the "rice crispy" problems with x-fi's
i wasnt and im not too happy

im not getting crackling like most people but only when i use asio 24bit 96,000
with my mk449c usb keyboard .... if i touch the pitch bend wheel the sound thats affected cuts off and then the crackling starts ... very low at first but gets very very loud if left for too long , usually shutting the program down fixes it , however if i use 24bit 48000hz i get no issues

newest drivers have not fixed the problem either
still a great card and the software type architecture of the chip looks promising for future sofware updates..... just hope they fix the crackling

Was looking to grab an X-Fi myself.

Have read post after post, and webpage after webpage of x-fi problems across the board, some are mobo related and get fixed in bios updates, others are x-fi issues, which take Creative forever to fix.

Read on the Creative forums, far far too many unlucky customers, and Creative's stance isnt really a 'make the customer happy' kind of stance.

I know having a seperate card helps performance, but with the numerous problems i read about just put me off.
