X-Fi or HDD

Forgot to mention that the card is going into my rig whichis going to be used primarally for GAMING so EAX etc is a must, so what product of the creative range should i go for.

Have heard that the X-Fi Music is as good as the X-Fi Gamer

Top notch SQ isnt a must as i have a 10" Pioneer sub off 280wrms :D which in some peoples minds is overkill and drowns out the rest of the music, but i like it

Those subs are ported a bit too high? 30hz is quite high, couple of subs I use are ported 16-20hz.

they wouldnt be that loud though and not very many tracks go that low either so really they would be tuned too low

Of course depending on the driver/box/amp, but 20hz is a good tune. I've used subs ported around 30hz and they just sound boomy with very little depth.

X-Fi Music is fine for music playback and gaming, so either that one or the Gamer, I don't think there is any difference tbh. It was so much simpler when there were 3 to choose from:-

Music
Gamer
Pro

Lol @ ultimate wibble wobble btw.

Firegod Im not honestly sure mate since the shop from which it came doesnt have any in stock and Ive already spent the refund on something else ... even though Ive still to get refund ! The biggest part of me wanted the shop to say the card was OK just so I could go back and try to sort the problem ... this answer your question ... :)

The cracking and popping issue is a major issue with X-Fi cards that Creative have admitted. Every card seems to have that error but it depends which motherboard you use it with. For instance, mine worked fine in my previous Abit mobo but my current setup it cracks and pops when certain sounds are played.

The driver issue is also famous and many many people have this problem. For me, installation is guaranteed to fail every time I start it. However, I did discover a workaround which is to install them, and then when the system crashes with a BSoD, switch off the PC, remove sound card, power up PC into Windows, switch off, replug sound card, then reinstall. Then it will complete the installation without problems. It should also be noted that X-Fis have more troubles in PCs if installed on the highest PCI slot. If I do that in mine then it won't work, but in the bottom one it's OK.

It's a shame the X-Fi is so buggy because otherwise the sound quality is superb and great for films, games and even music imo. And even with all my criticisms I would possibly still buy it again but I would certainly have a good look around at alternatives first. If you want a trouble-free piece of hardware then definitely don't buy it though as it seems to be pot-luck if it will conflict with your system or not. I should note that I am using the latest drivers and motherboard BIOS in my setup and have no issues with any other hardware I am using.
