I'm onto my second Creative X-fi fatal1ty now, both have the same problem. All of a sudden, sound will cut out and be replaced by a loud screeching sound, even if I disable the device in device manager, the only way to stop it is to reboot the PC, then it'll work fine again, sometimes for 10 minutes, sometimes for 10 hours. It happens in entertainment mode playing music or watching a video, it happens in game mode during TF2.

I've noticed this crops up in the windows logs around the time it happens, however I'm not 100% sure it's related.

IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 2, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

I believe the X-Fi is in slot 2, I do not have any other PCI devices installed.

I've messed about with the ACPI settings, PCI PnP and other PCI settings in the BIOS to no avail, but I'm not really sure what I am doing to be honest :(

Does anyone have any suggestions? Creative support have been no help whatsoever :(

I have the following:

Asus M2R32-MVP Motherboard
Athlon 64 X2 5200+
Corsair 2GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XT PCIe
Creative X-Fi Fatality
Running Vista x86

Thanks in advance.

I'm struggling to find anything that confirms my motherboard is the issue, I've only found the one article where a guy says his X-fi works fine on his M2R32-MVP.

May try a bios update, see if that fixes it.

Cheers.

Thanks, I've read that there are a fair few issues with X-fi and nvidia mobos, however the M2R32-MVP has an ATI chipset so I'm not sure if that applies with my issue.

Will keep persuing creative about this anyway.

Well I've run the card in XP for 2 days with no problem what so ever, install vista and sp1, and within 10 minutes of gaming, the sqeak of death is back. Clearly a Vista problem and Creative seem to think it is everything else but Vista.
