X-Fi Remote Specific Questions

Can you use the remote to control applications like iTunes or Windows Media Player? Functions such as next song, previous song etc.

Whilst you're reading this, is there an adaptor that goes from the Digital Output to either Optical or Coaxial - or do I need to invest in the Elite Pro?

it works with WMP out-the-box, but make sure the window is active else it'll try to control your desktop/whateverwindowisactive

it's fairly limited though

I think I'll stick with the Xtreme music one then.

My only reason to upgrade is because of the remote, but tbh I can use my wireless keyboard or buy a remote controlled amp.

to be honest i was quite disappointed with the remote - it's very unresponsive.

luckily it wasn't my reason for buying the fatality edition, so it didn't bother me.

can't comment about the adaptor though, sorry

Lets have a race...first to find where to get one of those adaptors! As I don't know myself, but I want to know, as I dont fancy splashing out on a pointless bay, just for optical out to my amp.

Happy now, no need to buy an expensive version with the bay

But, the cost of an Xtreme Music, and that adaptor, brings it close with the Professional/Fatal1ty...but who wants optical cables coming out of the front of their PC anyway!

I'm tempted by the Xtreme Music myself too, as I've recently ran into problems with my o/b Soundstorm with San Andreas, and to be more specific, the Multi Theft Audio mod. Software sound channels freeze up mid game, such as music or engine sounds. Chucked my old Live in, freezing problem gone, now have weird popping sound every so often.

I've read on here that other cards such as the M-Audio and HDA Xplosion have better DAC's and sound better (when using analog) than the X-Fi's (not Elite).

Also, the Elite is supposed to be really good at driving high end headphones, but £190 odd... :s

Yeah I got the fatality and its remote but im not too happy with it, seems bit big/clunky and weird buttons.

Need a remote badly one that glows in the dark (cos thats when most watch movies!) and with simple big buttons play/stop/rww/fww

aint seen one yet...
