Anyone had this ive seen it 3-4 times now and its bugging me.... X-fi latest drivers+patches installed and well could be listening to a mp3 or gaming or anything and the volume bar just slides down so you cannot hear it.

Dragging the volume bar back up just auto forces it to go back down ?

Possessed Ghosted X-fi card?

Ive gone back to previous images/fresh XP reloads and well it does fix it, but it would be nice to find the actual culprit of why I cant get no sound and why the volume bar wont stay on !

Any ideas?

I've found Smart Volume Management (SVM) can cause this.

Thx for answer but ive got my SVM turned off and its still doing it.

Even defaulting the windows sound settings/defaulting the X-fi settings causes the volume bar to auto to zero.

googling has no results but then again what can one google ? Soundbar keeps going down? lol

I guess another format is in the air.....need my sound back

Its quiet possible I was too heavy with the Msconfig startup tweeking.... ive renabeled anything to do with sound/creative and its working ok.

Hopefully it stays like that !

Yeah give it a go, cos I tend to tweek the startup programs and the creative x-fi does add a fair amount at the begining... try enabeling all and see if that fixes the problem and then try min disabling...
