Just a quicky,

Has anyone upgraded from this built in sound processor to a X-fi variant??

Im more interested to know about the FPS improvement more than the sound quality improvement,

Anyone think this would be a wise upgrade considering i already run a ;

Conroe 2.4 @ 3.0
2gb ddr2 800 4-4-4-12
X1900xt
in;
Asus p5w dh deluxe

using the onboard sound atm.

TIA

Cant speak specifically about that particular motherboard, however, you can bet your life that upgrading from ANY onboard audio to an XFI will be among the best things you can do.

NO onboard audio comes close to an XFI

And yes, your game speed will be noticeable

I doubt it would be noticable without benching but yeah there should be an improved frame rate, especially in games that make use of x-ram.

How do you know it will have an improved frame rate if you dont notice it? :p

Oh, thats sooo Unfair.

There is 3 of them.

Doom3 & Quake 4
BF2

4 if you count Doom3 ROE

And this is a bit of a mute point, but XRAM is only available on the Fatality cards isnt it?

This is kind of like PixelShader 3...Too many people slagging off a certain GFX Card because it does not support PS3 and how many games have it???

:D

Say you had no visability of your exact frame rate at all, but for the sake of argument it was 100 fps and it increased by 5 fps after installing the xfi. Since you had no visability of the figures to start with you'd have to be pretty up on your stuff to notice the difference without benchmarking.

Makes sense to me.

BF2142 supports it, and its rumoured Quake Wars:ET will. As it should have support in Vista with creative OpenAL drivers, now that Directsound has become defunct, we may well see it being used more in future, to improve audio, now there will be one main 3DAudio standard, which also happens to support x-ram.

Cant exactly hurt to have it, even if its not used right now :)

basically things are going to start adopting it. It makes a massive difference ot sound quality, onboard sound is generally poor. and eats a bit of performance. x-fi is far from poor, and frees up performance.

Iv only heard good things about them, now the drivers are being sorted anyway.
My x-fi is due on friday :)
