Hey, I've recently re installed Vista and downloaded the latest drivers from the creative site (Dated March 08) I've installed the drivers and rebooted as required but windows is reporting that there are no devices installed. When I go to the Device Manager it's listed as a Multimedia Audio Controller so I try and install the drivers manually.

Then I get this error, this is really annoying as when I had it on last time it worked fine, I was using the last version of the driver as well.

Try another PCI slot, ideally Bottom one.

According to peeps on Creative Forums, the latest Drivers (last 2 builds) are buggy and older build numbers.

Edit is this a proper Black PCB PCI X-FI or one of the PCI-E ones ?

It's a proper black PCB X-Fi (Extreme Gamer) and is in the bottom slot already, sorry should have mentioned that in the first place.

I've removed all reference to creative on my computer and ran a driver cleaner in safe mode a few times and am now trying the old drivers (found them on a disk) Will see how this goes.

Hmm I do not rate the Gamer unless the full blown Fatal1ty for reasons stated b4.

Anyhow on topic, all I can say is try the peeps modded driver pack on the Creative Forums, should be a sticky I think.

I know for a fact from having Creative cards since 2001, you wont be alone with that issue.

Good luck.
