Ok so I have just taken the plunge with vista, as I got a good deal on Vista Business edition through work. Having found that my ancient SBLive 5.1 was no longer supported by Vista, I purchased an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card. Only after several hours of messsing with creative driver installations, looking for the actual Vista ISO setup disk etc etc is the driver and software installed and the sound works when on default settings.
If any attempt to change the bass of treble balance is made then the sound distorts and cuts out. If any attemp to change the EAX or EQ settings then the same happens, I get a massive distortion and the sound will cutout. Defaulting back to original settings on the X-Fi control panel returns the sound. This issue is bugging the hell out of me and I'm getting to the point where I'm about to take a lump hammer to the blumming thing. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem before. I know theres a plethora of Vista/Creative driver issues, but really the latest driver release is supposed to work fine. Could this be a hardware prob? Any help would be swell.
Cheers in advance.
Specs (Don't Laugh)
Intel P4 3.2 HT @ 4.0Ghz (I've considered OC'ing might be an issue but it's not)
MSI 645 Neo 2 Platinum
2048MB DDR333
GeForce 6800GT
Sammy 500Gb Sata Hard Drive
Creative X-Fi 'Xtreme Gamer'
p.s i'm running analogue 5.1 surround on some creative speakers.
