hi all
i have just bought a X-fi fatality
not yet installed it
i see there is a volume control on the front panel
can i use this to control the speaker volume, and disconnect the creative speaker volume control

cheers

The front panel has an IR sensor so you can use the remote control to change the master volume. I'm not sure which bit of the software you need installed to be able to use it... Seems like much of it is just bloatware

Entertainment Centre with the Audigy 4, and no doubt the same with the X-FI... problem with the Audigy 4 version was when you patched up the drivers, it hung on shut-down for ages (I'm talking multiple minutes here), which went away when you uninstalled EC. Don't think it was ever fixed.

If you have no need for 2 sound cards which I doubt you would do it is best to disable the onboard sound in the bios as this will use system resources if it is left active, remove the drivers also, this ensures no conflicts between the sound devices in games etc.

^ Agreed, disable onboard sound in bios first, I did have 1 problem when i first came to install my Xfi-Fatal1ty that upon placing the cd in the system all would go well but the installer setup froze so i CTRL - ALT - DELETE and after that point i was unable to re-install or uninstall any programme even after numerous reboots. This lead to me having to completely re-formatt :( so my advice would be, uninstall the current onboard audio driver as when i re-formatted i didn't install it and all has worked fine ever since! :D
* btw this is one truely awesome soundcard, i went from onboard to this and was blown away, if you have FEAR and you wear headphones to game this will leave you in a cold sweat :p
