Getting my 2nd 5770 today :D

Quick question. Do i need to re-install the drivers to activate the xfire control center? Or is there something special i need to get from the sapphire site?

Do i use one of the ribbons or both?

What happens to the 2nd card in idle. is it de-activated.

2nd card will auto enable xfire, when you first bootup after the installation of the card, a ccc box will appear asking you to enable xfire, no need to install anything else

read my post here i started last night regarding the bridge
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18120527

and regarding the 2nd card, im 95% sure that the card will only enable itself when needed ( games, benchmarks etc etc ) then it will idle when not in use
this is what ive read on another very highly rated website this afternoon

Power off the computer, put second card in,put xfire ribbon on(just one), attach six pin power cable, power up and lo and behold xfire option is present in CCC. Enjoy.:D

Drivers should pick up the second card so no need to re-install.

No just plug in( the card and power connectors & ribbon) power the PC up enable it via CCC, it should prompt you when you log in and load up desktop, than off you go.

note that if you are running the first one overclocked it will not attempted to overclock the second it will leave it as it is, you have to do that yourself.

Also some people need to use two ribbons don't know why.

One other question.. How can i tell which card is working and which card is on idle?

I use GPU-Z which shows CrossfireX as enabled, but it is only showing 1024mb of ram, shouldn't it show 2048? Or is that the norm? The extra gig is just wasted, and all you get to use is the extra GPU?

the memory on each card holds the same data, so essentially becomes 'wasted'. the cards can't share video memory and so needs it's own set

Thanks, and shame. How do i monitor both GPU's?

Will say last week i had a 5850, and sent it back and opted for the xfire 5770's...

MUCH HAPPIER. Less noise, fits better and seems to perform better.

MSI Afterburner will monitor both cards.

For some reason though, it reports my first card (the one in the slot nearest the cpu) as GPU2, and the secondary card as GPU1.

Gpu-z has that GPU selector combo box at the bottom. If you want to monitor the load on both GPUs, open two copies of GPU-z. Go to sensors on copy #1, on copy #2 select your second card from the drop-down box. Then select the sensors tab.

If Crossfire isn't working in a particular game the load on your second GPU will be 0%.
