Just got mine delivered this morning so will install it soon. The 8 DVD discs need 80 gig of HDD.

Also got Saitek Pro Yoke and some FSX add ons too.

I've read that it is horribly unoptimised and runs @15 fps on most powerful rigs, so look forward for you to break that myth here:)

I haven't seen anything about optimization, but i still look forward to your thoughts, especially as a Linux user since in terms of flight sims it's this or FlightGear :p

It's Awful, unfinished and full of bugs. At anything like the detail in the trailers it runs like a dog on my 4.8ghz I5, 16gb ram and crossfire 6950's at 1080p.

With FSX unoptimised for modern machines and Flight not quite in the simulator spirit, I was always intrigued by X-Plane 10 and before its release was always reading the blogs.

I haven't yet played it myself but am surprised it's not the ultimate flight sim that it tried to be. I'm sure it will get better with patches.

When it does, i'll probably buy it.

Maybe the future is http://www.prepar3d.com/ then and not X-Plane? Although I'm always open for a simulator to beat FSX, but I've yet to see it :)

The pricing model is enough to deter me, but the potential is definitely there.

I remember a lot of complaints of fsx when fs2004 was the in thing. It has taken an age for FSX developers to get the best of it. The fact I have to load a default Cessna to use my ATR or 737NG is very obscure, but I live with it.

I think X-Plane 10 will take over. FSX only made it for me with SP2 and a shed load of add-ons.

Newly released simulation launches with glitches that will almost certainly be resolved over time... SHOCKER.

FSX was hardly optimised at launch for the then current hardware but everyone seems to have forgotten.

The fact this is optimised for multiple processors is amazing as it means those who genuinely enjoy this as a hobby should be able to do some awesome stuff. It is not like the Sim community moan at spending a few quid.

Us "casual" simmers will get what we want over time.

OK i will let you all know how it performs when installed. I was looking at the X-Plane website and it says to download an installer and not use disc 1 for this process so i have done that.

I Tested on:

i7 920 @ 3.36G 6g 1600Mhz - GTX 285 - 1280x800 windowed , playable enough
- gfx settings mid

i5 2500K @ 4.2G 8G 1600Mhz - GTX580 twin frozer II - 1920x1200 , playable enough - gfx settings mid to high

I like it at night , ground lights look epic

It will get better in time , when they optimise it better

Please post some screenshots for us in the screenshots thread! :)

I look forward to reading your review of it - and also the screenshots.

I have XP9 but it didnt last long on my system. I was impressed by only two things:

1. The awesome quality of the terrain. Its so good that you dont need any 3rd party addons to bling it (like you do in FSX)
2. The accuracy of its aerodynamics.

It all ended there because I find the visual models terrible (I know there are some hi-def addons) in general and the lights look like massive beach-balls!

Now if there was a way to make FSX read XPs terrain database....:D

Thanks for the pics!

I dont quite see the quantum leap in graphics though- here is FSX with ORBX that runs at 40+fps

Another AeroflyFS video. Have to say, they've got some great gfx programmers. Yes, you can not fly all around the world, but gfx engine streams landscape anyway...
