X-Rite Eye-One Display LT vs X-Rite Eye-One Display 2

Hardware is identical, but the software for '2' has extra functionality. It's the same hardware and core program in both cases, just '2' comes with the full Eyeone match software, whereas the LT comes with a limited version. If you're just after a basic profile the LT should suffice, but IIRC it can't target and adjust luminance, which makes it pretty useless if you're calibrating for print matching.

It's the full version of match in both instances, there isn't a light or full fat version. The firmware of the LT puck will just prevent you using some features. Unless you can get the firmware from a 2 puck and flash it (which believe me, this kind of thing may be common with graphics cards etc, but colorimeters do not have the audience, so I'd discount the idea unless you fancy an experiment).

The plus side is as the LT and 2 puck is the same, it will work normally with any 3rd party software if you choose to go that route. You're only limited with the Match software provided with the puck.

I had bought an LT 2nd hand and used with the argyll 3rd party software on vista

This software works fine compared to match s/w (swapping driver a bit fiddly)
I do not understand rationale for paying premium for the '2'
[Only post-puchase reservation was that apparently the sensors/filters degrade over time so buying a used example may be a false economy ..but results did make monitor
look better]

Not quite answering your question, but I have used a X-Rite Eye-One Display 2 calibrator for a while now and I really like it. Much prefer it to the color munki. Have now upgraded to the X-Rite Eye-One Xtreme kit as I need the paper profile features. But the Eye-One range are all nice, and the software is good.
