Recently bought a X-Rite (i1) Eye-One Display 2 for calibrating my Dell U2711 and NEC 24WMGX3 monitors, however when I run the advanced calibration, when it comes to adjusting the RGB values via the RGB controls on the monitors, when I adjust the green and get it in the middle (ie the correct setting), when I adjust the red and blue values with the monitor controls the green value changes, likewise when I set the red or blue and try adjusting the other 2 colours the red and blue will move from the middle, which makes it almost impossible to set all three colours into the middle of the calibrator...

Am using Eye-One Match 3, version 3.6.2 software.

Is there some way to keep the RGB values stationary so that all 3 can be setup correctly?

Am I missing something really obvious?

Thanks...

EDIT: Sorted, had selected a wrong setting in software...

All you're doing with the RGB channels is trying to get the monitor displaying a ballpark 6500k (if that's your target) so the program has to do the least amount of fiddling with the graphics card LUT. Some monitors will require quite drastic changes in particular channels to bring it in line with neutral. Annoyingly as a lot of monitor OSD's pop up in the middle of the screen when you make an adjustment, so you often have to let the OSD disappear and then let the program make a new reading on the displayed square.

It really is quite straightforward though. You've only got 3 things to adjust and with enough fiddling you should be able to get pretty close. If you're literally finding it impossible then I'd say the monitor has a very funny way of dealing with adjusting the RGB channels, but that's a question for the person who made the monitor!

If in doubt just get it close (it's not uncommon to not be able to get every channel perfectly central) and let the program take care of the rest. It will be able to compensate via the LUT :)

Thanks for your input...

The problem arose because I selected a wrong option during the calibration process, but all sorted now.

Out of interest, have you used a Sypder before? I'd love some opinions on a direct comparison between the Eye-One 2 and the Spyder 3. How are you finding the Eye-One 2?

No, never used a Sypder, or any kind of hardware colour calibration tool before I bought the X-Rite...

As regards use, it is quite straightforward, the error I experienced initially was my own fault as I should have looked a bit longer at user guide, there are Easy and Advanced calibration processes that can be run from the software, I initially did the easy, but then ran the Advanced. The Advanced method gives very good results I reckon, all the values I got pretty much spot on 6500/2.2/120 and according to Simon's review of it when compared to the Lacie, it was only the luminance that was slightly out...

I bought this one becuase from all the reviews I looked at this was the one that gave the best calibration results for what I considered was not a too high a price...
