GamingShogun Interviews EGOSOFT Founder Bernd Lehahn, primarily focusing on the "X" series of space combat games, learning that EGOSOFT game is probably done with the series, but not the setting: "We are not necessarily done with the X universe, but we are done with the X games as such. What I mean with this is that I strongly believe that X3: Terran Conflict is the best possible game inside the gameplay definitions of the X games so far. We listened to what our fans wanted and implemented as many of these things inside the framework that was established with this series. We do not want to continue this development inside these boundaries forever. At the same time however, as with our previous games, X3: Terran Conflict WILL be improved with further (free) updates. X3: Terran Conflict has introduced a new mission design system which allows us (as well as modders) to rapidly create cool new missions for this game. We hope to make more good use of this system and also inspire modders to use it. So you can expect a number of updates for X3: Terran Conflict and hopefully also mods."

Glad they will continue on with the story :) I "almost" wish they would realese an rts based on this.....could be a new homeworld game.....but not in the style of Sins of a Solar Empire.

well theyve ended the x series but in the process developed a brilliant setting, so they could do what they wanted, an rts would be more than feasable in the setting

Well....hopefully someone will do a Star Wars mod for it that does it justice. I remember seeing a video on Youtube of a Star Wars mod (work in progress) for X3 and it looked extremely promising. Fingers crossed that it actually gets finished.

I would like to see the X-universe be in real 3d space instead of flat with just N,S,E,W gates. It also needs up and down if you know what I mean

There's talk of an X online MMO or something to that effect, I don't see it happening myself.

I believe they had that dream and a site up of it since Xtension!

It's a shame they won't go on with the x series but at the same time i can understand, this new version just shows they weren't willing to really improve it in any decent way, more ships and stuff is all they add now, very few real game play additions that go beyond mere scripting, i want to see the universe come alive, its way too cold and lonely feeling tbh.

There was a time when they started to play around with the idea of live missions where you were contacted by passing ships but outside of the story nothing like that happens, even that isn't enough though, we need places outside of your ship to explore and in ship for the bigger ones, would be sweet to walk around stations and get missions that way, it needs to mix what they have now with a kind of fps aspect and interaction on stations and ships with characters etc.
