Try a Teladi\Split\Paranid Equipment Dock?

Teladi`s dont have them at the stations I checked.

For some reason the Split & Paranids wont let me dock with their stations.
I havent done anything to them which is odd, only flown through their space.

Yeah, you have to build up a relationship, just keep trying. Some will let you dock then you can trade with them to build that up

Or go kill some pirates in their sectors!

:)

Loving this game :D it's starting to take over my life!!! :p

My mercury is now leveling up nicely, just started to UT now :D

I've noticed it has purchased some fighter drones for itself. 12 off to be precise.

Are these good for defence? Or is it worth buying a fighter to protect it?

UT pilots will buy their own drones, if your UT isn't equipped with a weapon, it will drop the drones to give the pirates something to worry about, then it will jump out of the sector.
I never equip my UT's with weapons, they tend to fight in battles they can't win.

As shamrock said, escorts for UT's aren't worth it, their more then capable of taking care off themselves, plus you have to make sure that the escort is always stocked with energy cells so that it can jump.

Where can you buy 25MJ shields?

There's a program called Sector Planner
Because every's universe is different because of the GOD engine, it's hard to say where some stations are in someone else's game.
Sector planner is a program that shows you a map of your universe, it also has a very handy "find" function, which will show you were products or stations are located.

Is this game worth it, and how well will it play on an A64 3200+, 1Gb, 6800GT?
Hard to say really.
Ask someone else on the EgoSoft forums and they'll be running at max everything. Ask a different person and it'll barely be doing the minimum correctly.
Its a poorly coded game, and its hit/miss on how it will perform on any system.

It runs fine on my system which is has 2GB of ram but same gfx and cpu, not much slow down at 1280x1024 at max visuals, no AA or AF though.

The game is worth it if you get through the early problems of no money and being shot a lot but it can soon get very addictive, espcially pirating in some of the unknown sectors.

It has a bit of a steep learning curve, but if you invest some time into the game, it's very rewarding.

Steep?

Steep?

Its practically vertical :D

Good though, just waiting for the mammoth to arrive so i can make my first factory!!

much better than X2 I have this on disc but never got round to playing ,is it worth spending cash on x3 if i never played x2?

I think X3 is better than X2 as long as you have a decent system. Improvements of note for me were a vastly improved graphics engine and the handling of the ships especially in combat is much better. The UI is also much better once you get used to it. The game was initially released months too early and had loads of bugs and poor performance, but the latest patches have addressed most of these issues and it runs great now.

Like others have said, it does have a steep learning curve, especially if you've never played any of the X games before. I definately recommend a read of the guides over at the egosoft forums (http://www.egosoft.com) because the manual is rubbish, even the key mappings in the manual are wrong.

If/once you get into it though it is a huge game with months of stuff to keep you entertained. Nothing can beat the feeling of getting your own little business empire and fleets of ships up and running :)

Should be good at 1600x1200 maxed out with AA\AF.

As for the learning curve...once I'd spent an hour or two goofing around, I'd learned the controls and was using the online guides to help me figure out how best to earn credits.
