my x700pro arrived for less than 2 weeks and i already got an oppurtunity to upgrade :D, my friend is building a budget pc and asked if i want to sell myx700pro for 50 quid (i bought it for 55).

so i get a choice with the monee i have.

A x1600XT which has 12 pipelines but only a bus width of 128bit?
or
A 6800XT with only 8 pipelines but has a bus with of 256bit

Also if u can suggestany otehr card withing the price range of 115 it would be great but i want the card to support SM3 , so that means no x800s

well the x1600xt is a very nice card ive fitted a few, id say itl be a fair bit faster than the 6800xt,

il put it this way, the machine's i built had these cards in and they ran world of war craft with every thing on max. *1280x1024

i think they are great cards for the money and silent :)

The only obvious improvement over of those options would be a 6800gs, but they are £20 over budget. They will be noticabley faster than a x700pro though.

The 6800xt might have some overclocking and unlocking options that'll put it ahead of the X1600XT. But neither card at stock speeds is head and shoulders above the X700pro.

I's save a little and go for the 6800gs (or if the unlocking options are good go for the 6800XT).

The 128 bit bus really strangles the X1600XT, but the extra pipes and sheer clock and memory speed of the X1600XT will make it a bit faster than a 6800.. Again, i'd say save for a 6800GS, there are some quite cheap at the mo i think...

I own the x1600 and I have just bought the xfx 6800xt from ocuk for £99inc vat.
Using new 6.2 cats my 3dmark 2005 for the x1600 is now upto 4100marks using stock values. 12pipes at 500mhz core/ 800mhz ddr memory speeds

This 6800xt is a storming card, it has ddr3 set to 1000mhz as standard and the core is set to 350mhz with 8pipes and 4 vertex shaders. The DEFAULT clocks are very conservative to say the least!! Mine detected optimal clocks using coolbits to be 450mhz/1150mhz !!! It happily benches at 490mhz/1200mhz clock speed

As I say only got it this morning but I love the 6800xt, it is really is great bang for buck!
The 3dmark2001se below 3dmark2001se was done at 435mhz and 1150mhz speeds. Will go higher but haven't had time to tweak.

added 3dmark2005 compare as well
3dmark2005

Just looking at that the 1600 gets the same score at stock as the 6800xt gets when clocked.

Does anyone know if the already huge x1600 clocks can go much higher?

from the reviews they don't seem to want to budge much past 610 on the core and 1400 on the memory
not quite.

The X1600XT cards do get decent overclocks ...

The X1600XT comes clocked at 590MHz on the core and 700MHz on the memory or 1.4GHz DDR. The core increase reached 652MHz and the memory was able to achieve 770MHz or 1.54GHz DDR.

The HIS X1600XT
The max overclock I managed to get out of the card was 645 MHz for the core (a 10% overclock) and 1530 MHz for the memory (a 11% increase). This overclock gave me around 5-10% increase in performance in 3DMark05 and Half Life 2.

Overclocking af X1600XT kortet
Mid-end kortet imponerede ikke når det kom til overclocking. Kernen kører standard 590mhz og kunne presses op på 624mhz. Rammene gik fra 690mhz til 733mhz. [core was overclocked from 590MHz to 624MHz & ram was overclocked from 690MHz to 733MHz or 1.47GHz]

The X1600XT is the better card imo.

Those results are unimpressive...my 6600GT scores about the same.

For £10 more the Nvidia 6800GS blows the ati x1600xt away.

yea i m tempted towards x1600xt as well, as i play css more than bf2 and i think creators of hl2 uses ati cards.

Check out this review.

For £10 more the Nvidia 6800GS is vastly superior to the ati x1600xt.

Fitted a agp 6800xt to a friends pc 4 weeks ago and all the pipes and shaders unlocked to a gt via rivatuner was a baragin for £107.

2p
