Hi there,

I need a rly good graphics card to play source and all the latest games. I used to have an AGP x800xt pe a couple years ago which was the best graphics card out at the time and could play source maxed out np with AA/AF etc.

I am playing with a crappy 5600 nvidia atm just for cs 1.6 but need a good graphics card again to play the latest games without doing a full upgrade to pci-e, ddr2 etc.

I found this card on OcUK:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-063-HT

I was going to buy it anyway but it's now on the week only for 7 quid off :D

Is this card faster than an x800xt pe? I see it's got SM 3.0 which is a bonus and 512mb ram.

Can it play all new games maxed?

Thanks for any help.

It's not too bad for the money, but if you're expecting to play the latest games on max settings with it then I think you're gonna be disappointed. Don't be persuaded by the 512mb - in reality it has a small effect on overall performance, it's still a heavily cut-down card compared to the X1900 series.

Although compared to a 5600 it's still gonna blow you away...

in short, No. not in the slightest.

again, no, not in the slightest. it will play CS:S maxed though.

to be honest the entire X16XX range is just pants. and this is coming from an ATi lover.

Vibez i don't know what happened to your old X800XTPE but presuming you still wouldn't mind owning one or something of a similar specification ive had a look on a very well known auction site and found the following.

Shader model 2 capable cards:
X800XT AGP 256GDDR3 £94 inc postage (cores clocked 100mhz lower than standard XT but should clock easy enough.)
X800pro AGP gddr3 256mb £50 inc postage

Shader model 3 capable cards:

LEADTEK 7600GT AGP 256mb + BUNDLED GAMES £108 inc postage <--- that ones a bargain in my opinion.
NVidia 6800GT (6800 GT) 256MB DDR3 AGP + Zalman Cooler £105 inc postage

drop me your e-mail if you like.

i cant get my x1650 pro to work properly, its stutters and stuff when i play games

any ideas why?

what are your full system specs including motherboard make, what games are we talking about. what card did you have prior to this...

2.66ghz pent 4
MOBO: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-6579
1gig RAM
XP SP2

game = pro evolution soccer 6

card before = 9700pro worked fine, until it made the screen go fuzzy and crash the display (black out) everytime i played a game

maybe i have a power problem

The best AGP card you can get is the X1950Pro. And it is very well priced & a very good card too. Besting the X800XT PE without a problem.

edited to add: dang, just looked at the original post date.

Its possible, but the faults appear to be different for the 2 cards. 1st i would remove all your graphics drivers & try reinstalling the standard ATI ones from their website. If that doesnt work see if you can try your X1650 in a friends pc & see if it works fine elsewhere.

i think it might be my power supply, i have 230W power supply, OcUK says i need 450W

how easy is it to change power supply?

or should i just get a geforce card?

the card is also 8x AGP compatible, my mobo is only 4x

will that affect the card much to give me problems like this?
No. Whether its AGP8x or AGP4x shouldnt cause what you are experiencing. A PSU is pretty easy to replace - detatch PSU cables, remove it, replace with new PSU & reatatch cables.
Something like this perhaps...
