Hello.

Just a quickie.
Getting an X1950-Pro 512mb over a 256mb X1650 is a sizable leap right ?

Tomshardware seems to thing its about 3x better but I just thought I'd double check !!

ta !!

if you are on PCIe then why not go for HD3850 PRO 512 or 3870 XT?

The recent price drops make them extremely price competitve and kick the older RV570 performance wise! What price will you be buying the X1950 PRO anyway?

Yeah it'd be a big upgrade, but I would also agree with spending a bit more and getting a 3850. 512mb version if you plan on playing games in 1680x1050, or 1440x900/1280x1024 with lots of AA/AF.

I did that exact upgrade to my wife's PC and the difference was huge. As long as you're not spending almost as much as a 3850 it's a good upgrade - the 1950 will play all the latest games at medium settings no problem.

Hmmm... we'll I've seen an X1950 for about £70, but I don't have to upgrade this instant.

Maybe in a few weeks or so, the HD3850 will have come down a bit more or have been on a This Week Only offer.

I take it the HD3850 is better than the X1950 too ?? ;)

If you mean the X1950pro 256MB for £70, its a really good price but if you can stretch to £88 id get the Powercolor HD 3850pro 256mb.

Heck the OcUK ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT 512MB at only £111 is absolutely great value.

another vote for the 3870 here. personally id go with the powercolor model which i have, its only a few pounds more and preoverclocked with a sexy cooler :P

the x1950pro 512mb is still a good card mind and £40+ cheeper. so if your not likely to be picking up any new games over the next year its still in the running imho. if you are though i highly recomend the 3870. i upgraded from an x800xt which is just a bit better than your x1650 and it kicks ass :D
