X1650 Xt

its to go in a shuttle with 400watt although a member on here said the X1950 would be ok i am playing it safe.

I ran an X1950pro off a 300Watt PSU perfectly fine although it had good rails. What make PSU is it?

i spoke to sapphire today and they said the x1950 needs 450w and he thought i would be OK with 400w but when i said i was using 2 hard drives 4Gb ram and a Q6600 he change his mind and said i would be pushing it a bit.

why do sapphire tell me that it needs 450 watt then because i have seen this on comments for this card so sapphire must put it on the box or something, it seem stupid to me some of them have even got new power supplies because of this.

Many power supplies are overrated in their capability numbers. Take that 650 W Q-Tec as an example. Tests indicate that it fails at less than 350 W draw. They make up a number like that so they're sure that if you have something rated for that it's quite likely that you'll be able to use the card without problem.
