Hi

Anyone know why my pc reboots when it gets to the end of loading the bar in farcry, but say if I turn up my new X1800XTs fan speed using ati tool or something.. this doesnt happen. I have had artifacts in farcry that I fixed by turning up the fan speed as well. Something tells me its to do with temperature :o but I thought it should turn itself up if it gets too hot which is weird :(

Will a zalman VF-900 fix this as I was gonna put one on the card?

Thanks :D its stock clock and C6.7

My x1800xt runs hot too 70C idle, probly in the 80s in game. But it doesnt reboot. Sometimes i think it reduces the clock speeds to stop itself crashing - i think thats the VPU recover.

I am also planning to get that Zalman cooler too and i think it should reduce the temps and noise.

Welcome to the forums. :)

It does sound like it could be a fauty sensor, as they do pick up speed automatically when the temerature rises, and as you say if you when you turn the fan up manually its fine.

The Zalman VF-900 is a cracking cooler, and would definately do the job, but if it is a faulty card then id just RMA it, do you not hear it picking up.

@Fanatic 70 is hot for idle id say, mine only idles at around 58-59, but in the hot weather we've been having its been around 61-62, but even then it never goes above 71 underload, and welcome to the forums to you to, the Zalman would definately lower the temps. :)

Hi :)
Mine idles at 60 and goes 82± under load. With ATI tool I can see the fan speed turning up from the idle 27% to around 35-40% under the 3d view load so I think the fan picks up ok, hmm. I got a zalman coming soon :) Rise and Fall works fine at max on 1920x1200 so thats strange

That zalman gonna me my first fan that doesn't blow outside

Yeah you'll probably notice your case temps rise a bit with the Zalman on there, but if they are already pretty low then they will be fine. :)

Mind you a few ppl say the Accelero's are better than the Zalmans, as they exhaust the heat out of the back to like the stock cooler.

Well with the fan at 90% my card sits idle around 50C, but its noisy.

To be honest the reason its so high I think is because I have the fan on a low speed to keep the noise down. Hopefully the zalman will be quieter so i can have it running faster but still keep the noise down.

But the zalman is a way off as im going to get it when i upgrade at the end of august/early september.

When using the "Try to keep GPU temperature at: x" feature of ATI tool it basically turns the fan off until it reaches the x temp. Which i had at 70C. I think i found why it idled at 70C. :)

A fixed percentage of 50% keeps the temps around 54-58C at idle. Though it hasnt been as hot today as some other days in terms of weather. In fact its raining.

I have tried the Dynamic speed settings a few times but sometimes when i look back at ATI tool they have all changed and are not what i set them too.

4021 3d mark 06. Didnt crash or anything while it was going.

Dunno how to loop it do 3DMark 06 Graeme for 30min... maybe thats full version only?

Oh yeah so it does, just like the Zalman, but there is some that prefer them to the Zalmans. :)
Both the Zalman and Acellero are bad for a poorly ventilated case, but to be fair the Zalman doesn't blast the motherboard, it just spreads it out into the case.

Either way I would suggest anyone without intakes or exhausts seriously consider keeping the stock cooler as it's much better for airflow. If you have an exhaust(s) and/or intake(s) though then the Zalman is the best option IMO.

I would say my case is awesomely vented because its a P180 ;) Possibility of 2 x 120mm rear fans and a 80mm on the vga duct if you use it for blowing or sucking air close to the vga and its not as if its got a pentium in it to heat up the case air :p

DL almost done, just happened to pick slow site :( oops

It would be awesome if there was an accelero that blew the air the opposite way because some cases such as Antec SLK3000B have a rectangle cut in the case there for airflow which that hot air would just blow straight out

Aye, I've got an 80mm intake on my side panel and two 80mm exhausts on the back. The heat my VF900 spits out doesn't have time to sit around as it gets sucked/blown straight up into my Freezer 64 Pro CPU cooler and out the back of the PC.

The Acellero would be much better if it blew air the opposite way, I completely agree. That was the entire reason I chose a VF900 over it, my northbridge gets hot enough without being blasted by a jet of roasting air.

If I put the Acellero on and stuck it in my year old AMD64 machine it would probably overheat the nf4 chipset :p the heatsink burns to touch so its already running hot as it is and its high fsb after a little tweak :D Something reads 71C +- 2C in that AMD64 setup, but I'm not sure if its a non existant sensor

Hmm strange, the FPS reading is 0 and its like watching a slide show! hmmm

Thanks for result to compare to once done :D

Edit: that 0FPS was just 1 of the cpu tests

Yeah, the 0 fps is normal for the CPU tests, they're software rendering only (not using vid card). I didn't realize you couldn't loop the tests, I was thinking of 3DMark 05 (I think), sorry about that.

Anyway, if your PC can survive a couple of runs through 3dMark06 (especially the last test - deep freeze) I'd say there's nothing wrong with it. I get about 3900 btw, X1800 XT 256 mb / A64 4000+ / 1 GB DDR400 in 1280*1024.

Are you using Far Cry patch 1.33 cause some of the versions have had issues with ATI cards. With 1.33 I have no problems running Far Cry with the latest ATI drivers. Reinstall Far Cry maybe?
