OK.

I am getting closer to choosing my card. I will be running at 1650 x 1050 on my NEC widescreen.

I am skint but can stretch if it is worth it.

The cards that I am thinking about are:

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 GTO 256MB £159
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB £235
MSI ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB £294
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB £299

I really can't decide. I know people will say go with what you can afford but is there going to be a massive differance between the £159 card and the £299 card. Can you notice a X1900 over a X1800? What takes the most power? Should I think about any other cards?

Mostly play CCs, HL2

I want to make my mind up this weekend so will be happy of any help.

the happy medium is the x1800xt 512.

its an amazing card.. and will max out pretty much every game out at the minute. its definitely a good price for the card.

Will a game maxed out on the X1800 look the same as one maxed out on the X1900?

erm... pretty much, just the x1900 will be slightly faster.... but the x1900 will do better at higher resolutions... but at your resolution you wont see a difference

Would I notice a difference from the X1800 GTO 256MB card to the x1800 512MB card?

yes... you can get the x1800xt 256mb which is very cheap and very good for the price.

why not take a look at some nvidia cards?

I would not mind a NVidia card but I guess the 512MB mem is more attractive.

Get the x1900. If you plan on playing games like oblivion at 1680x1050 then you will regret getting anything less. Every fps counts in this game.

If the price is fine with you then you would definitely benefit from the extra power of an X1900XT at the resolution you want to play in. I am using an X1800XT and I think it would have a heart attack if I played Oblivion at that size.

Cheers. What is better the MSI X1900 or the PowerColor X1900
Out of those two just choose the cheapest, but MSI are getting pretty popular now for both their ATi and Nvidia graphics cards. I think MSI also do trade-ins for upgrading from one MSI card to another, but that could be U.S. only.
