sorry to bother you guys, just really need some advice quite badly.

ive had my card about a year now and im getting major problems with my temperature( well i think i am anyway). everytime i go to play a game that requires to use the gfx card heavily, i get really high temperatures of up to 95c, i dont know if this is safe for the card.

im using Stock Fan and Stock settings, it just seems to be getting really hot now and sometimes just shuts the graphics card down and i require a reboot.

any ideas of the best ways to cool it, ive orderd a Artic Cooling Accelro X2 off overclockers to see if it can help, should come tuesday and hope it will lowe these temps.

any advice i would appericiate it.

thanks

Yeah that does sound high, mine idles at about 55-56, and under heavy gaming only goes to about 71-72, the Accelero will make a helluva difference to the temps and noise, but is the stock cooler picking up speed still the hotter it gets, and also have you checked for dust etc... in there as it could just be something as simple as that. :)

hey can hear the noise level of the fan get louders, im guessing cuz its speeds up to match the temp of the card. ye i tried taking it out and i blown out loads of dust and it did lower the temps for a while but its back to the high temps again.

Could try some AS5 on it, but if your getting a new cooler then i wouldn't bother, the Accelero's are crackers so you should have no problems with that. :)

ok thanks, ill wait till tuesday and try it :). thanks for help, does the the accelro come with thermal paste do you know?, and what cooler are you using for your temps

What case do you have?? does it have good airflow getting to the fan on the graphics card??? I have the stock cooler on mine and even after monster gaming sessions it only ever gets up to mid 70's. It could just be bad contact between the stock heatsink and core that a simple refit would sort out.
Remember that the Acellero doesn't vent the hot air out of the case like the stock one do. It shouldn't affect the case temps too much, but its worth keeping an eye on.

ok thanks for help guys

i have quite a cheap case, and the side is wide open so i think the airflow is ok. i might try and open it up and see if i see any problems, i only took the actual fan off before im guessing you can take the whole plastic bit off. i might try it and see if i can find anything unusual, is it easy to take all the plastic off on the card? ill need to do it anyway when the accelro comes.

thanks again

The Accelero X2 is a very nice heatsink but its very TALL!

If you have a big case 'or' don't need to put the case side on then no problem.

It wouldn't fit in a HTPC build I am doing (Silverstone LC20-s) and towers above the CPU HSF (Artic Freezer 64 pro).

I can say that the Accelero X2 is really quiet!

Lol? I think you are over-exadurating mate. The Accellero X2 isnt that big at all. I have one of the smallest cases going (Antec super Lanboy) and theres a good 3 inches between the edge of the cooler and the side of my case. Vertically the cooler is just under an inch tall.

Fitted in my SuperLanboy. Tiny case, loads of room around it.

I don't mean thick, I meant its height. Its ok you have a tower chassis but the system I got these cards for is a [HTPC] Desktop . . . the cOOlers is too tall, it sticks up about 2" past the top of the cards PCB and I can't get the lid on tye case lol! :)

This won't effect most people with bigger cases (yours is big btw!) but some people who are toying with a [HTPC] build will be looking for a quiet card to stick in their lounge machine.

Hehe I guess its all relative, what is small to you in big to me kinda thing! :)

The whole [HTPC] thing is fun, but there is lots of fiddling and things you take for granted from using a tower case go out the window.

I like the Accelero X2 , pity I cant use it. No doubt about it, thats one 'Quiet' cOOler. . .

Yup, good case cooling is the key :) I have a 120mm fan on the side panel and after I re-seated the stock HSF with AS5, I now idle at 52oc & 64oc under load!

ok guys i think i found my problem, i opened up the PC today to see if i could clean out the graphics card dust etc. and noticed that it takes two brackets at the back of the PC, the person who built my PC forgot to take the 2nd bracket off where it seems there like vents? and im guessing thats what was causing the hot temps. i took it off and been playing company of heroes it idle now at 50c and is about 60-70 under load? is that ok?.

i hope this is fixed the problem.

and do you think i should fit the accelro when it comes?

thanks

andy
