Just wanted to check on my temperatrue after having my card in now for a couple of days. Only been running it idle for now doing web stuff and no games.

Using a Zalman V700-cu and running at 610/1420. It is hot weather at the moment, specially in my computer room and still waiting on some more case fans so at the moment theres only 1 in my case but my idle temp is about 47 - 48c and ive got my fan set to 100% using ATI tool.

Does that sound about right or have I maybe not slotted the Zalman on properly or used a touch to much thermal paste?
I know its a hot card but seems a little high for idle speeds. Fitted a new fan to my Athlon 3500+ and thats running at a cool 30C idle so that makes me think ive mucked up installing the Zalman.

Welcome to the forums. :)

Id say its fine, on the stock cooler here and mine ldies at 55 normally, its on 63 at the minute like as its red hot here, but its still fine for gaming. :)

Hi there

Do you have any idea on load temps? My X800 + VF900 never goes above 50 on load, and idle's around 36... but my card would run cooler anyway.

You can check you have good airflow to the fan, but imo those temps are nothing to worry about.

PS. Edit out the sweary ;)

Dunno sounds about right, and perhaps the 700 can't cool the hot ATI's enough. Any chance you can take a photo of the card from the side? Does the 700 stick above the ATI PCB? (mate has a 1800XT, the Zalman 900 is too big in the Qpack case, the 700 might be ok)

How thin did you apply the thermal grease to the ATI core? I used a razor blade, probably applied grease as half as thin as a piece of paper.

Hmmmm I might have applied the grease abit to thick maybe. I used the Arctic cooling MX-1 paste and it dried very quickly when applying it and was hard to spread. Maybe I put abit to much on in the middle of the chip.
I used a slightly runnier paste for my CPU and it spread on fine and is staying cool so might be worth using that instead.

I did turn it on early this morning when its abit cooler and its straight away an idle temp of 48c. Ill give it a few more days as I havent had the X1800 running for 200 hours yet. But the 1800 and 1900 are hot cards I know so this might be the average temp. Ill browse abit later when I have more time and see what others get.

cheers
