I have just purchased a connect 3d x1800gto 256mb and am having some problems with it.
It is in a
Dell 5150 (i know horrible dell etc.)
3.4ghz p4
1gb ddr2
250gb sata hd
80gb sata hd.
Dvd/rw
onboard sound.

It installed ok but now when i turn the mains on it goes into a loop of trying to start then stopping. Does this about 20 times before it will finally allows you to turn it on. I have contacted Dell tech support and they say it is a video problem by the diagnostic lights.

When it finally boots it's ok. I can turn it off by the power button and it will come up again straight away but if iturn the mains off it starts again.

Last night i tried to use the AVIVO to convert a dvd to psp file but the options are just not there. I have uninstalled all drivers, re-installed the ones that came with it. Upgraded to latest version but no joy.
It's as if it cannot detect the AVIVO chip.

I know the power supply is lower than recomended but many others have installed these in their system with no problems.

Does any of this sound like a dud graphics card or another problem.

The old card a X600 works fine when reinstalled.

Any advice greatfully recieved.

Yet to get a response from connect 3d

If the x600 works it could well be, can you try the x1800 in another machine, try and rule that out, or it could well be the PSU isn't powerfull enough, not sure how much power the x1800 GTO needs. :(

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

Sending it back. No response from Connect 3d technical and i was offered a refund.

I was torn between the 7600gt and this x1800gto.

The only thing that swayed me was the AVIVO bit for converting some home videos over to dvd and fast conversion to psp.
Is it worth it? cant seem to find much info on how to use it.
I'm a little wary of ordering another after the problems with this one! Probably a one off but still wary of that power supply. The next one would be a GEcube are they any good.

If it was short on power would it just not work or could some of the syptoms above be associated to it.

There's very little in price difference.

Gonna order again early next week.

Gecube are a subsiduary of Gigabyte, so the cards should be fine.

But what rating is the PSU you are using.
How good are the 12+v rails.
It may be your PSU is underpowered for even midrange cards, wouldnt suprise me if its a Dell.

Not sure of all the info but it says 305w but they are underrated. They are said to be closer to 400w+.

On the dell forums people have 7900gt's running on standard power supplys. Iv'e also read of 7600gt working fine and x1800gto's. but you never know how accurate the reports are. Someone has confirmed the sapphire x1800gto as working.

It took me long enough to decide on this one! now confusion reigns again!

I'm stuck with a single slot solution due to the case.

Considering the above, it is possible you recieved a faulty card, but would have been nice to have tried it in another rig to make sure.

Hope for the best & when you get your replacement card, hopefully it all works well. If not it could be something like your PSU giving out. But i wouldnt worry about that just yet.
