X1800XL, much faster than X800XT?

Deffo worth the upgrade - just to get PS3 support. R6 Vegas and SCDA require it. If you overclock it, it will be nearer 50% quicker, prolly a good 40% stock.

Couple of frames or so according to this review, dunno whats up there though as the x1800 XT is more than double the performance, absolutely hammers the x800 XT, and the XL is not that much slower than the XT i think.

stock clocks for the X1800XL are 500/500
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""X1800XT are 625/750

The XT is a fair bit faster.

The x1800xl is certainly not anywhere near 80% faster than the x800xt at all. In fact, if you look at this ATi Tray Tools bechmark you will see that it is very close performance wise to the x800xt, and against compared with a x850xt, there is virtually no performace gain at all. ;)

Also confirms the similarities of the x1950 Pro and x1800xt :)

I recently went from a x800xt to a x1950 pro.

The change wasn't as dramatic as I would have hoped for. But things were definitely smoother.

Interesting results there, think I'll keep the x800xt in the kid's pc for a bit longer then.
thanks for the info guys, appreciated. :)

I went from am 850XT to a 1900xt and it hasn't made a huge difference.

GTL/GTR2 no real FPS gain but can run much Higher res with more AA.

BF2/rFactor it did seem to help by about 20%.

In 3Dmark06 it went from 1500 to 4796 btw an 8800 take it to 5700 in 3dmark06.

The X1800XL IIRC was quite a dissapointing card. In some scenarios it was barely quicker than the 7600GT which when you look at the specs on paper is ridiculous.

I think a lot of this is due to the R520's design which required high clocks to maximise efficiency which in the lower clocked XL didn't work at all.

Personally the minimum upgrade from a X800XT I would do would be to a X1800XT / X1950pro.

wow. That chart confirms again what a pile of junk the X16xx series is.

Nice to see the X800XT PE doing so well.

To OP: I went from a X850XTPE to X1800XT and I did notice quite a difference, but not really a revelation. Keep the X800XT and perhaps give a little overclock for some more frames.
