If someone could help me a little here, been about 8yrs since i last used an Ati card.

Got myself a Saphire X1800XL 256meg card.

Downloaded/ using latest 6.3 ccc drivers.

Tried the auto clock config utility in ccc & it does the GPU fine upto 575 as that is the max ccc allows but when it gets to the mem the pc crashes.

I have tried to do the mem manually & even increasing it by 1mhz & clicking apply the pc crashes ?

Before you ask, i am using a Zalman VF700 cu & temp is only 48c

Is it just ccc is pants & is there a better tool & dont say ati tools or ati trey tools as they are pants & don't work properly.

thought id borked it for a while :(

When I had me X1800XL and tried to use atitool to overclock the memory, the exact same thing happened to me, pc crashed with a "green" screen. I found out from the rage3d forums I had to take the memory straight up to, or slightly lower than, the max allowable overclock as indicated in the overdrive option in CCC, no messing with doing slowly, complete opposite, and found the overclock held with no probs at all. Ran for weeks at the that level too.

Is that to say your card fried ?

fullfat: do not use Ati Tool or Ati Tray Tools, they both suck at trying to overclock x1xxx based cards.

Come on guys i know some of you out there have used tools to overclock your 1800's to over 600 & better mem speed. But going through all the old posts to find the right info is anoying.

Nope, I flogged it and got an X1900XT and its still running fine in me mate's pc.
WRT atitool, I had no probs with it when used with me X1800XL, I just left the overdrive option "greyed out" (not selected) and used one of the later beta ones, "atitool 2.5 beta 10" I think, worked like a charm.
