X1800XT + 226BW

Well, I'm planning on upgrading my dog of a machine in September (monatary reasons

) - but realise I can possibly get the monitor in a week or so. I was thinking of getting a 226BBW as it seems to have some good reviews and is within my budget range.

What I was wondering though is if my 256MB X1800XT would be able to support the monitor at it's 1680x1050 res without a serious detrimental effect on games/performance? Or heck if it would actually even be able to support it in the first place?

Should be fine, I run mine with a 7800GT and it is great in games such as Farcry, COH and HL2

First thing - X1800 XT 256 mb will do 1680*1050 so yes it does support it. The resolution is a bit of a stretch for the card though in very demanding games - I find I have to drop quite a few games down to 1280*800 to get things running smoothly (see sig for system). Stuff like Fear, Oblivion etc. 1280*800 still looks good though (obviously expanded to fill the screen), just a little less sharp.

I would say go for it.

I have the same monitor and the 256Mb X1800XT. I have to run CoD2 on 1440x900 (19" WS) to be playable... but that is with absolutely everything on max.
