X1800XT 256 MB

These cards are insane value for money at £170, I bought one myself when they were £190 and I haven't been so chuffed with speed and image quality in my games since I bought a Geforce Ti 4600 years ago.

Edit: If you can stretch your budget to £260 though, get an X1900XT.

I think they are good value for money. The only other options I might consider would be the 7900GT at £180 or the x1800xl at £150 (which has a slightly lower clock speed).

x1800xt is the best value for money since the GTO2 i bought and before that my 6800LE which i unlocked to a 6800 ULTRa i seem to have amazing luck when buying the best graphics card on a budget, and the x1800xt was an amazing card wish id kept it an saved the £300 on my x1900xt

As said above it really is the best value for money card out there. Mine will run anything I throw at it. Can't fault it at all, just buy one :)

I have a 6800GT atm, I have been saving to buy another Graphics card and was gonna wait until later this year. However I saw this today and am tempted.

I have recently got my 20" widescreen and my GT is struggling a bit with the likes of Oblivion and FEAR.

You guys reckon I should get one of these or wait until October November time.

£160 does seem like a bargain but will it still seem like a bargain come March next year when the titles come out. Do you guys reckon it will run the new titles like Hellgate London, Stalker and such.

I'm considering getting a X1800XT or an X1900XT, however i'm not too sure what product maker i should go for, and i'm a bit worried about my PSU coping with it (My PSU is a Hiper 460W) and my processor bottlenecking it (my processor is a AMD64 3000+ Venice 1.8Ghz).

Could you help please? I could afford a X1900XT but i'm worried about these things.

For the PSU, you'll need to check the 12v rail ratings; ATI say you should have 30amps for an X1900 XT system, but to be honest I've seen plenty of people running X1900s with considerably less.

Personally I'd go with an X1800XT as the X1900 is somewhat overkill, well it is in my system and I have similiar specs to you. You could also do some overclocking on your CPU if want to minimise the bottlenecks.

how loud are the fans on this card .
They go through a quick (like two seconds) spin-up to 100% when you POST the computer, then they're silent after that at idle. Once under load, they spin up to about 45%, and are still not too bad in terms of noise, but I decided to get a Zalman for mine.

Covered - got an AsRock dual SATA.

Then BUY, BUY, BUY. :D

Mines not loud at all, only goes to about 71 underload, although this weather its about 73 - 74 probs, but even thats not loud, as said they spin up full pelt for about 2 seconds if that on startup, then are silent in 2D windows mode, and mine hardly picks up from that when underload, i think they have to go to about 80+ before they really start to pick up. :)
