When I play a game for about 20mins I get an instant reboot with no errors displayed.

Noticed my x1800xt is hitting 99c when under load and 80c when idle. Does this sound too hot and if it is overheating would if cause an instant reboot?

The fan is spinning it doesn't take too long until it spins up to its max speed.. then about 15mins into gaming powww whole comp reboots

As said the stock fan runs at 5000+RPM and at that speed it doesn't take long for the intake to be completely blocked by dust. Give it a thorough clean and reapply decent thermal material as well, the stock one is rubbish.

i would really think about getting an aftermarket fan, maybe a Zalman vf900 i got one for my 1950 pro and the difference is amazing :) and deffo get some thermal paste :)

I remember once my x1800xt was running at 99c and wouldn't load any games. I opened the case to find the fan had come loose and wasn't spinning and also the heatsink of the vf900 was completely clogged up with dust. I doubt that the fan would have made a difference even if it was plugged in the dust was so bad :o
