I currently have the thermal take tidewater installed on my x1800xt, although its very efficent at cooling, i find it very loud, can anyone recommend an efficent and QUIET cooler which will cool this card?

yep, just installed mine hoping i could actually overclock the card but nothing, cools better though idles at 38. Which is pretty good.

Did you increase the voltages? My X1800XT overclocked way better on my Zalman in quiet mode than it did on stock cooling at leafblower noise 100% fanspeed.

with the 900 it's slightly lower than with stock, but it's quieter...so bonus. Roughly 4 degrees cooler at idle, although max temps seem much much lower.

Managed to fix it. Just BIOS flashed it in the end. Running 711/774 @ 1.425 and 2.124. Will up the memory to 2.150 tomorrow and try for 800. Core wont take much more though. ATI Tool doesnt seem to work, always crashes (not using the ficnd max or anything) just got rid of it and used Rabit/ATI wIn flash. Scores 9844 in 05' with a 3800 @ 2.4Ghz. When i get a conroe it will push 10.5 i think. Possibly 11.

zalmans the best but can increase case temps so i suggest buying one of those exhaust fans for the pci slots they are only 3 quid or sumfin
A simple 80mm exhaust is more effective in my experience, sucks it all straight out the back of the case with only a degree or two increase in ambient temps.

Could just be that you got a bad clocker, happens unfortunately. I was talking to some chap on MSN at one point who's X1800 XT would just freeze up with the core at only 640MHz.

ATi Tool is a bit iffy. Personally, I would like to see X1*00 support in ATi Tray Tools, but it looks like it could be a while unfortunately. I never had to mess with flashing the BIOS on mine or anything though; I just fitted my VF900, increased the volts, then experimented with the clocks and got it stable to 720MHz on the core pretty quickly. My 3D Mark scores still suffered though, my CPU is pants. :o

i can get my core to 690 without any volt modding and my mem to 1600mhz
Are you talking about with Catalyst Control Centre's "overdrive" function, or with Ati Tool? ;) Should warn you that Catalyst Control Centre lies. :p

with the tidewater thermal take (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Thermaltake/TideWater/) installed on my x1800xt, idle temp is 49~53, load core temp is between 70~73C, however the volt regulator temp reaches 95C! does that sound right? Also i have no heatsinks on the memoiry chips, and clock speeds are at default (600/700).

That does seem very hot, mates X1800XT in a cramped case idles lower than that! Around 45-48 degrees

The Tidewater doesn't look hugely efficient, but those temps are very high, I'd check the contact is good and you the tidewater is functioning properly. The Vregs are going to get very hot because they no longer have any airflow over them, best to point a fan in their direction.

Yep, I'm gonna haave to take apart the cooler and check the heatsink contact, also i didnt mention that the fan is always on low, i dont set it to high as its loud enough as it is. Is it safe for the card for the V-reg to reach temps in the 90's?
