hi guys, i downloaded ATItool the other day, and had a stab at OCing my x1800xt- after running the "find max core", i set the core clock at 670, and loads of display artefacts came up all over the screen! needless to say, i noswearing! my pants. after a short spell in the bathroom cleaning myself up, i booted the rig back up and everything's fine now that the core has set back to the starting level. what sort of clock can i expect from my card? i'm cooling with a zalman 700cu.

thanks

ps should i really be attempting to oc this card? :(

ATi Tool is shocking, it wont clock your card properly at all im afraid, basically it doesnt support the card!

Look for a program called overclocker that should work fine for you. You can also use the ATI Catalyst Control Centre and by increasing it there check with 3d mark for artifacts, mines could go all the way in CCC before I put the new bios on anyways

the last catalyst control centre i downloaded woudn't open, just came up with an error "0x001010000" or something. so i uninstalled its ass. that'll teach it ;)
according to techpowerup.com, version 0.25 does support x1800 series... so i'm using that version.

thanks inwardsinging and hottiger! i've found links to both the things you mentioned, and have dl'd the .net framework 2.0. i can't belive i didn'd find out about this earlier! i've got to optimise my bios settings too, in line with my g card.

The bios flash really makes the card come alive, temps stay the same, and it can all be done through windows now too, theres a thread on flashing it about here if you do the search.

sweet. will i need/be able to push the card further after the bios flash, or will flashing crank up the juice as far as it's safe to be cranked?

i downloaded the "x1800xt-ocbiosflash.zip" file, unzipped it and excecuted the .exe file, but i can't tell any difference with my pc. how can i check to see if the bios flash has worked? also, when i alter the core/memory in catalyst control centre, the settings revert to those in atitool, even if this is below the lowest limit in the ccc overdrive slider range. what's going on, and how can i sort it out? thanks for the help so far- i loaded the .net framework and ccc no longer comes up with that error i was getting before!

install rivatuner and go to hardware monitoring. Fire up a game while rivatuner is open, then close the game. Now you can check the temps, core/mem speeds and core voltage. ;)

okay im wondering on the voltages(ati tool) the first one is for core, 2nd memory,

3rd memory buffer??

whats a memeory buffer voltage?whats the safest max for voltages /overclocks that you lot have?

hmm... i'd like to hear what sort of clocks i should be expecting to acceive too. at the mo i'm still on 600/700

inward can be a bit more specific? like drandy has said how much further have you managed to push your 1800xt, if your still at 700/800 i don't see how much more alive that is from my 690/800 using ccc before a flash.

so come on spill the beans how much you managed to o/c to, 3dmark scores...etc

my x1800xt card,Flashed to pe bios.
not yet found out all max scores.
3dmark05
Stock - 9597/9585 3d marks with DUAL core
1. 41.5
2. 28.0
3. 48.4.

about the same for affinty set to 1/0
only 10-20 points between them, with core 1 getting the more of the two.

Whats the 3rd mem bufferslider?what does it do, to push it forward a bit.

Im well looking forward to see what this thread brings

Lets see what these do

EDIT i got more with the cat 6.2

i got 9800+ with cat 6.2

and i can push core to 770 with maze 4 and volts 1.4v through ati tool.Overclocking on riva tuner gives me 10005 3d marks at 2.7gig. i wonder if theres anymore in the card. What core speeds/volts are others using?

I've got the zip file mentioned above, my X1800Xt is running 689 core speed and 797 memory. It's cooled by a Swiftech MCW55 water block.

If there any point in me upgrading to the PE bios.

If so with the atiflash proggy in the zip file do I need to set the clocks to 500 before flashing?

Cheers

the zalman isnt really man enough to cope with the x1800xt when your overclocking, i had to take mine off, even with the fan on high speed, i would get corruption playing quake 4 after about 10 minutes. I took it off and Im waiting for the new zalman or arctic cooler to get my temps down. Was just about okay at stock, its annoying because the idle temp did reduce to 46c from 52c with the zalman on.

I just scored 10008 on 3DMark05 at 689/797 using overdrive in CCC on an A64 X2 3800+ @ 2500Mhz, Cat 6.2. Im really not going to bother with the flash as my performance appears to be pretty decent as it is.
