Is my X1800XT a dud?

I have gone through the directions in the X1900XT overclocking thread but i cant get it to go above stock.

Clean format
Install Chipset and other drivers
Ran Windows XP Update and got all updates
Installed the latest drivers from the ATI website (6.4 i think) Just drivers no ccc
Installed the ATI Tray tools
Installed Ati tool v0.0.25 beta 14

but as soon as i run the ATI tool and set it to find max core after a couple of seconds i get screen corruption and have to reboot my machine...

I have also tried installing the drivers with the ccc and getting it to push it with overdrive but after a short while it reboots the machine... :(

What am i doing wrong? If anything... :(

Just wondering, do original ATI drivers allow you to overclock? Thought only Softmodded drivers (e.g. techpowerup's, etc) unlock this feature

Just been reading the X1900 overclocking thread... Looks like i totally missed the but that said you have to up the voltage and the clock speeds to force it into the 3D mode...

Will let you know if i blow it up tonight... :D

Well managed to get it to go a bit... Got it to 650/800 but that was with 1.5v on the core and stock on the memory. I am a little reluctant to go any further as it was reaching 75 degrees on the core with the fan at 60% And i managed to score 9447 in 05. I think i can get it to 10K by ramping the CPU up to 2.8 and upping the voltage on the core and ram with the fan at 100% though. But pretty sure its the cpu holding me back now.

Thought 75 degrees was a bit hot though so backed it off to 640/[email protected] fan at 60% for daily use...
