X1800XT Question

Hey Everyone,
Yesterday my brand spanking new Sapphire X1800XT 256MB Edition arrived. It's in my PC, running cool (56 degrees celcius average under load) and quiet, and I am extremely impressed by the card, considering the frankly criminally cheap price (Thanks Gibbo).

The question i wanted to ask, was this: With my old card, an X800XL, When i loaded up, or minimized games, it used to do it seemlessly, only a short wait for the CPU to catch up. However with the X1800, I get flashes of black lines across the screen, lasting a few seconds, everytime i open a game, or minimize it, or open CCC (Catylist). Is this normal, or have i somehow messed something up in the installation?

Apart from this minor query, which i have to say it less than an annoyance, the card is fine in games, no black lines or stuttering, and is performing excellently, as i said, it is only when loading up/minimizing that i get the lines.

Just to clean up, I am running on a 17" Hyundai ImageQuest LCD Monitor 8ms response time, at a 1024x768 resolution for both desktop and games.

Thanks,

PA.

Yup, removed all old drivers and software affiliated with my X800, using Add/Remove programmes in cotrol panel as i was told to by an expert friend of mine.

I'm not lying, and yes, it runs at 56 Degrees UNDER LOAD. This information is provided by ATi Overdrive, as part of CCC.

Is it really worth the hassle to get new drivers, and will it fix the problem?

Use ATiTool for accurate measurements, according to CCC i'm sat here at 21c idle... :o I'm actually sat at 48 idle.

Thanks Random, shall i just google for ATi Tool or is there a specific place/link?

I am going to have a nose around some different drivers, thanks for the advice people.

Seeing as no-one has as yet answered the question :p, the flickers are normal. The crd is forcing the reload of the display driver as it sets the new clocks I believe and this causes those bands. It also happens at bootup ;). Perfectly normal - slightly annoying but normal.

*Breathes Sigh of Relief* Thanks dude.

Also, i just installed this 'ATI Tool', couldnt find a temperature reading, tried overclocking the core by pressing the little '+' button under 'Core' till it read 1.00, clicked accept clock, or something like that, and my monitor went black and the fan on my card moaned at me. A quick re-boot and some flickers later i uninstalled it. I'm just going to play it safe with CCC, my heart skipped a beat when my screen went black...

Read about overclocking before you go for it, by the way i have no idea what you're on about with the 1.00 core :p

Good advice about reading about O/Cing first because he's using the wrong version of ATiTool. The X1xx cores need the 0.25 Beta 14 version. The previous version miss reads the clock speeds.

Are you running CCC with ATI Tool closed? I'm not sure if it's been fixed, but CCC used to report an incorrect temperature when other temperature monitoring programs were running.

Very odd, my x1800 XT 512mb idles at 55-56, and underload hits about 70-71, and its still quiet. :D
That's true, but the statements people are saying with them saying their card maxes out at 50 load just are not true if they're still on stock cooling.
