Hi, im getting the above graphics card. Now the main board everyone seems to like is the asus SLi board - there seems no point with me having an ati card...

So what route should i go, 70-80 budget.
Processor 3700SD
2gb ram
Prob not overclocking to begin with, unknown if i will use crossfire.....

Ta.

Cheapest X1800T is just a tad more than £80, more like £230. You might be able to get a X800, but even then that's £117.

Erm... If you read the post again, he wants to get a Mobo, not a GPU....

I'm currently using an MSI K8N Neo4 Mobo with an x800 GTO2... it works perfectly. I was using an Asus A8N5X last week, but that kept corrupting my HDDs and made everything unstable.

K8N is roughly £70, too. I reccomend it.

the bad boy everyone is waiting for is the r580 board previewed on anandtech before xmas, but that's likely to cost more than 80 quid and you'll have to wait.

you could do worse than getting an ultra d, if you're not gonna use xfire.

Theres hardly anything in it between the Asus Crossfire board thats out now, and the RD580 chipset boards coming out according to Gibbo, as the Asus is that good, its the best Crossfire performer by far among the RD480 boards. :)

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

Wish id known at the time to, as i bought the rubbish DFi LanParty RDX200 Crossfire board. :(

Still im thinking of getting the Asus now anyway. :)

though is this the one you mean?

Asus A8R-MVP Crossfire (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-129-AS)

it's only 82 quid, would seem to fit our man's requirements perfectly.

and if it is that one ocuk have a nice £930 going to them! System speced and ready to go (only last minute change was getting a 1900XT instead of the 1800XT)

:)

Guys i would hold fire anyone on buying this board, i have one, it is generally luckydip what i can see whether you get a good one or not, i got a duff one, will try and hang on as what i have read of other R480 crossfire boards this is supposed to be the best of a bad lot, and get a RD580 if they are released in Feb, unfortunately i can't be without a functioning pc for work, so have to suffer this until something better arrives and dont really want to buy a NF4 just to bridge the gap.

As said above by Demonologist, don't get the Asus, its got loads of problems apparently, theres another thread in here about it as well, hold off for the RD580, thats what im doing now, im steering clear of the Asus now. :(

Welcome to the forums btw Demonologist. :)

Thanks Loadsamoney, sorry to be the harbinger of doom for this main board, but was so looking forward to building my new system.

Yeah i was thinking about getting a one as said, the MSi one is suppposed to be a good board though according to Gibbo, uses the same ULi southbridge, but i suppose be nice to hear from ppl who actually have one first. :)

Gibbo any idea when the rd580 boards are turning up mate?

are these new chipset boards going to be totally different model numbers or are they going to just be a different chipset on the same boards
