This might be a bit of a daft question but...

The x1900 has hardware support for HD playback (h.264 anyway), right? So how do we get access to the hardware acceleration?

A copy of PowerDVD 6 came with the Saphire XT i've got but theres no mention of HD and i'm guessing that it'll need a compatible app before the hardware acceleration kicks in, so no QuickTime.

Hi

if you look on the ATi website it redirects you to a trial H.264 codec download at Cyberlink ... wasnt too impressed to find you have to pay for a 3rd party codec myself but then purevideo from the green team isnt free either

Certainly got power DVD but no codec i'm aware of. And i did try firing *.mov files through it but PDVD wasn't having any of it, other than Apple i'n not sure where you get h.264 content from.

Looked at ATI's page, and yep there is a codec sitting there for download. I'll give the trial version a run through over the weekend. Bit cheeky though, $15 isn't a lot of cash and given the cost of the cards you'd have thought they would just bundle it.
