X1900 ... what is known ?

Well, the stock voltage on the x1900xt is 1.2v compared to 1.35?v on the x1800xt, so you can make a fair assumption that if ATi are using the same cooler then the fan speed can be reduced.

Hmm but the power requirements i heard are larger for the x1900's. Would that as a result not lead to higher temps?

More power = more heat

There isn't any easy way for ATI to reduce power requirements so at best the X1900XT will be similar to the X1800XT with power, thats assuming that they have made lots of improvements with the process and design to reduce power anyway. The X1900XT has a lot of more trannies and higher clocks so will produce more heat.
Of course they can add a better cooler which can take the heat away better, combined with a better qulaity fan like on the GTX512s.

Lower voltage = less heat.
More transistors = more heat.
Higher clock speed = more heat -> however as its only jumping up a smidge from the X1800, then i doubt the clock speed will add much heat...

Anyways.... Gibbo has said these cards run cooler than the X1800 so thats good news straight away. Now all I need is a quiet dual slot cooler and im set :}

haha hey man your in Livingston to ... Thumbs up dood.

/waves.

Didn't even notice you were from my part of the country :D

Its only the XTX that has went up in clock. The XT remains the same from the x1800 according to all the leaks.

VR-zone have an XT overclocked to 715/855 on 1.4v using the default cooler, so it doesn't seem the extra transistors have hindered the overclocking too much. Perhaps a 700/900 XTX PE could be on the cards?

umm another question is there going to be an ALL IN WONDER X1900 ??

oh and according todays exchange rate $650 is £365.88... lets not forget to add tax and we get a good £400 to pay for the card.

Judgeing by that price the x1800 series is bound to go right down in price after the release of the X1900 series. Also that is dependant that the X1900's are a lot better than the X1800's.

Any idea when the prices will start to drop. Would be nice to get one around mid/late feb time for a slightly cheaper price.

Thats for the XL version of the 1900

I have a bad feeling they wont bring out the XL until the G71's GT comes out. They will be happy with sucking up the big bucks paid for the uber high end card.
They have got over a month free reign of the market until the nvidia competition finally gets out of the gates.

I don't know about you but i'll be waiting till the G71s come out, or at least until reliable benchmarks before i spend. On the chance NVidia blow away ati i think it's worth waiting the extra month.

yeah im unsure what to do, but mainly because of Vista / DX10 / unified architecture.... will wait and see what the bigger picture is like and then make my move :}

The RD580 (think thats the name) that is launched around midfeb.... tis ATIs latest and greatest mobo - apparently :P should suit crossfire a lot better. learning from mistakes and what not.

Hmmm .. from the scores available in benchmarks, an X1800XT crossfire set-up with an A64-4000 is faster than one X1900XTX with an X2-FX60.
I can't see that situation being much different in actual games, at a guess ...
