Hi all,

The last couple of days i've been having a few issues with my crossfire setup.

i have


Asus maximus extreme
Quad Core
2 gig DDR3

1900
1900XTX in Crossfire

in hl2 Gmod , i get artifacts

and the other day i had a lockup due to ati drivers (bsod, Sorry didnt write the error down)

also my sys tray icon is missing (but its enabled in the program)

Ill try and test them seprate

Also in doom 3 - crossfire when i load the game my movies/ and navigation screen is all blury



HL2 runs perfect

ill try n test Fear next ... if i can find it

30- 60fps (indoors) in Oblivion - everything maxed no artifacts

I've been playing Fallout3 since 8:30 and the graphics were amazing in vault 101 , as soon as i got outside it was artifact galore!! :(:(

So i think its time for a GFX upgrade

Whats the best card to have Atm ?

No budget!
 
as your motherboards supports crossfire get 1 gig 4870 get another one later if u need to i doubt u will at least u game at insane resolutions.

Ps: 1 gig 4870 and 2 more gig of ram ;)

The ram will have to wait i think for now , i dont have Vista so no point me getting 4GB

your psu will handle 4870x2 but there is no point having 4870x2 if u not game on 1920x1200 or a above 2560x1600

whats your rez?

edit: why not buy 1 gig 4870 and 2 gig of ram and vista 64 bit and it will be less then 4870x2 ;)

is it worth getting Vista? as Windows 7 is in dev?

Also i would know what ver to get of vista

well i have windows vista 64 ultimate i had to few things like switch of those pop ups when u trying to run application but when i sorted those minors problems with help from windows/software section it. i had not problems at all.

and i can play dx10 and dx11 games in future. for windows 7 i don't know much. but i know u will have to wait 6 or even more months till they get the bugs sorted.


Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024mg gddr5 i have the same card for a week now even i game at 1680x1050 but i use 8 aa or 4 aa in most of the games. so u should play mostly all games with 4 aa farcry 2 etc etc.. u can always crossfire like u did your 1900 later on for additional boost.

same problem i had with my x1900xt in farcry, get outdoors and it artifacted like mad. turned out i had geometry instancing disabled. enabled that and everything ran fine. dunno why it was disabled to begin with. probably ati up to thier old tricks.
 
Well ive taken out my 1900XTX and just have the 1900 (master) in atm.

God knows how im going to test this!

Well i get the same result but not as extensive



I just hope both of the cards dont do this :/

unless im doing something wrong in CCC?

Hmm... strange how it does it only on that right/lower stripe.

Have you tried turning all antialiasiing etc off?
 
Hmm... what version of X1900 is this? Does it use the external dvi link cable?

If the problem is occuring in a lot of games it could possibly be the mixer chip on the master card playing up a bit, or a crossfire bug in the drivers. I would have thought if it was a faulty gpu/mem/board it would not show as a specific area effected on screen, but effect everything....

I used to have ocassional odd issues on my old 1900 setup when both used together but were both fine on their own.

its the version where you have the crappy 2 way lead which connects to dvi,

Master card - with xfire's pants connections

XTX - DVI connection

then sprouts off to dvi


This is going to sound plebby!

but what settings should / shouldnt be enabled in CCC?

in 3D Tab > All Settings
