X1900 XT 512MB

I've got a X1900 XT 512MB, just wondered how this would cope with a Dell 24" Monitor at maximum resolution?
Does anyone have this combination?

I've got the same card and a 22" monitor but it depends what you mean by cope? Doing what exactly? Solitaire? F.E.A.R.?

i had x1900xt with my dell 24" never had a problem with it ,although i only really play il2 i used to run that at max no problems .

I got a 1900xt 512 with dell 24. Which games do you play regularly that your concerned about? I have a c2d 6600 at 3.2 and all the games i play run just fine.

It will be mainly used for games, I just wanted to make sure my card can handle the resolution etc. of the 24" Dell before I seriously contemplate buying it.
Its a bit more than I wanted to pay, but from what I've been reading it'll be worth the extra both for quality and performance now and also future proofing.

I mainly play games such as Ghost Recon 2, HL2, FM2007, Quake 4 and will be C&C3, Crysis etc.
I know the unreleased games will probably need a better GFX card to fully make the most of DX10, but that will be something I worry about when I come to it.

I currently have an AMD X2 4400 but might be upgrading to a Core 2 Duo 6600.

I think that selling your card and getting a 640mb 8800GTS would be the best option. I overclock my XT to faster than XTX speeds and still at 1920x1440 it isn't the greatest on some titles. I tried a few games on a Viewsonic 19" CRT that supports 1920x1440 and it could run it at times but choppy in others. The 8800GTS 640mb version is the one for you in my honest opinion.

Depending on your definition of fine you won't have a problem.
The 8800gts isnt a huge boost over the 8800gts in some games.

I don't know about everyone else's definition, but I'd like games to run smoothly with no jumping or anything, and to be able to make the most of the 24" monitor by running at max resolution with most of it not all the options turned on including AA etc.

How does the BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB rate? It's been recommended to me a few times.

This is the card for you if you want AA/AF Shadows etc

Well the 8800GTX would be better at that resolution. If £100 extra is the price you'd pay for extra peace of mind then go for it. If you could do with saving £100 then the 8800GTS 640mb is no slouch.

The 8800GTX will be a lot better for upcoming titles at your resolution.

Probs would go for the 640MB at that res, I'm quite lenient with my games, if there only played SP I'm not bothered so much by framerates

I can see both sides of the fors and againts....in all honestly unless I get real good money for my existing card I will keep hold of my X1900XT for the time being until DX10 is more main stream and then see how the cards have changed and buy a new one then....will be interesting to see what ATI will have to offer

As everyone is buying them for their Dx9 performance, no ones buying em for Dx10, your gona lose £400 lol, sorry thats just rubbish, you'll easily shift an 8 series for a decent price, can't say the same about an old tech x1950 XT though, can't even shift those now, brand new or 2nd hand they aint shifting.

so what would you say then Loadsamoney? I've got my X1900 XT on ebay at the moment to see what I can roughtly get, and see what kind of money I could spend on an 8 series card. but like you say, they will still sell and be desirable when newer cards come out, unlike the X1900




Obviously s/ware and h/ware developers have had access to DX10, thats why games like Crysis and STALKER are being made for them, and i'm sure nVidia and ATI are able to work with it as well. So although the 8800 gives good DX9 performance, surely if the company has access to DX10 its going to have good performance with that too....maybe not as good as yet to be released cards, but still good enough to wipe the floor with most cards out now, as well as being able to run new games very smoothly

well technqually the 8800gtx should be better on dx10 as it spreads the load and stuff effeciently so it may be faster
