Hi,

I'm new to the forum but was after some advice...

I have just upgraded from an X800XT to the Connect 3D X1900 XT
and i'm a little supprised by the 3DMark 05 score of only 7894

The X800 used to score around 5000, so I was a bit supprised that this score was sub 8000.

I'm guessing the bottleneck is my CPU, although I didn't think this was as relevant on 3Dmark05 compared to 3Dmark06

My PC specs are below...
Dell XPS
P4 640 (prescott 3.2 GHz)
2GB DDR2 (2x 1GB)
2x 250GB SATA HDD
ATI X1900XT
Dell 2405 FPW

Also as a side note... my X800 XT went screwy 2 days ago while I was playing battlefield 2... I got a nice screen full of artifacts and the PC locked up.

Now whenever I boot up with the X800 installed I don't get any dos screen or XP boot screen untill XP loads... then I can use windows for a few mins until the screen freezes. When I went into the Catalyst control centre under the video section It would play the example ati flag blowing in the wind... but on the 3D performance tab its artifact central before it locks up.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas of things I could try in order to revive the old X800 it was a good card and I can't bring myself to putting it in the bin as long as its fighting to work.

Sorry for the long first post.

Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure the card is switching clocks to 3D. Its not the first I've heard of stuck at 2D speeds.

My FX53 with X800XT scores 6400 on old cats and nothing tweaked so apart from the obvious processor difference your original score on your X800 seemed a bit low tbh.

Ok I've installed the Beta drivers and even clocked the card to XTX speeds and I still got a ***** 7590 3DMark2005

the results came back as..

GT1 Return To proxycon: 28.9
GT2 Firfly Forest: 19.6
GT3 Canyon Flight : 49.3

And My CPU mark came back as 4386
CPU Test 1: 2.2 fps
CPU Test 2: 3.8 fps

My last benchmark with my Old X800XT card got me 6077... so something is seriously up here...

I know people have said that the card speed steps, and I tried to listen to the fan when it started benchmarking and it didn't seem to get any louder... is it possible that the card is refusing to run faster for some reason?

Any suggestions most welcome... is it of any use if I post a link to my 3dmark result file?

No swearing, read the FAQ.

Have you tried some real life results before and after upgrading? (Source video stress test for example) Your 3DMark score will be low because of your CPU but that doesn't necessarily reflect real gaming results. Playing a modern shooter it doesn't matter if you use a 2.8G P4 or a 2.8G Fx57.

Uh, i'm 110% sure that you'll find the 2.8ghz FX-57 will absolutely WIPE THE FLOOR with the 2.8 Pentium, there's absolutely no competition involved, and that was a stupid statement to make.

Ok I'm going to try some actual game tests in a minute...

I just ran 3D Mark 2006 and I scored 4745... I'm not sure if that is more on par with what this card / system should be getting or not...

broken down that score was as follows...

SM 2.0 Score: 2139
HDR / SM3 Score: 2503
CPU score: 934

I understand that you think its the pentium thats holding it back... But the 3Dmark 2005 score was based purely on the gfx card I thought... hence why there was a seperate CPU score that doesn't reflect on the GFX score.

Do you have all the settings in the Ati CCC set to performance?

if so it must be a combination of ram timeings and CPU speed holding you back. dell machines are not really high end gameing rigs

Downclock your cpu by 1000mhz and watch how much your GFX score goes down..And yes it will go down a lot.

9,700 here with an AMD 64 at 2.6 and x1800xt at 690/800.

sorry mate but it's your pentium.

A random name is right, even if he is a bit of a girl.
